Well in appreciation for a little party (get together) I had last week a friend gave me a call and in appreciation for hosting he offered up a coyote hunting spot to me. So today he called me up and asked if I wanted to go out and meet the land owners. I said yes, we decided I might as well bring the call and the .223 just to give it a go after meeting the land owners. the land owners have had some coyotes come up close to the house and wanted a few of them gone. Well after meeting the land owners we went out for a walk around the bush and came to an area where we thought it would be worth a try to call one in. We set the caller up about 80yds away in the field. The caller played for about 15 mins or so (dying rabbit) and then we started to hear some coyotes howing like crazy in the background. I called back to them for a while and the dying rabbit call continued to play. After about 30 mins total the dying rabbit sequence finished and a dying crow sequence began. At this point we figured nothing was going to come the coyotes stop calling a while back but it was a nice evening and we were just shooting the $hit when we hear the coyotes howing again it sounded closer. Then we called to them with a howler several times trying to get them all round up. A few minutes later we notice movement about 900 yds out.....Boy were they far, little tiny specks, After a few minutes we notice the objects are getting bigger and bigger two coyotes coming in. They were making a bee-line to the call. It was the coolest thing watching these guys make there way from that distance through the open field to the call. As they reached the 140 yd mark I let out a wolf and one stopped and I took the shot with the .223 it spun around a bit and then dropped the other one ran but got below the hill in the field so I had to stand up and take two shots at him on the run and missed him with both shots. I almost had my first double.....Very close and very cool.....We will now let this place be until the fall or the farmer needs help sooner...It was an excellent evening with a new friend... we had alot of fun and it was great. Terry known as Nipigon Jack is the man and I just want to thank him one more time for this great offer and experience. Frank.
