I've got the pre '64 M70 collector bug now. I bought one recently with an honest hesitation that the hype was over blown, but found there was actual reasoning to the madness. It's definitely an addiction to be constantly on the look out for a better pre '64.

That being said, I'm interested in looking for a modern production rifle that retains some of the true feeling of a pre '64 M70. Like a previous post asked; why has no one come forward (or many for that matter) to share their satisfaction or disatisfaction of the new FN-Winchester M70?

As far as I can see CZ, Kimber, and Winchester (FN) produce a classic looking, wood furniture clad mauser style actioned rifle. Any thoughts on how they compare? Does the difference in price accurately reflect the variations in quality and performance between the makes?

Also, anybody have a different make rifle that they would add to this list?

So does Ruger, the Ruger African in .375 Ruger is pretty nice and Ruger has several calibers being produced with classic lines and wood stocks.

Ruger guns are quite affordable and very sturdy while also being quite accurate. I have owned several and always seem to have at least one in the gun locker.

Don't know about the latest ones but I've got several Classics from the 90's. Great guns. I used to use the old ones but the new ones are very hard to beat. Nothing wrong with the old Mod. 70s just easier to do certain things with the new ones.

Coopers and Kimbers are nice! I think the kimbers are a great deal for the $$. For a couple hundred more than a remmy you get a darn nice rifle..... and it's not a remmy! For a couple hundred more than a sako, you get a Cooper.
