So I was finally able to pick up my first handgun yesterday, a CZ. F*ck You Big Paulie and your band of A$$ Clown Lieberals. I was hoping someone could give me the basics on how to properly clean a semi-auto?

When I clean my bolt action rifles, I use a bore guide and clean from the breach. How does one clean the bore on a CZ? I have taken the slide from the frame and cleaned it up a bit, but I'm not sure how to go about cleaning the bore correctly.

Also, I wondered if there as any difference to the type of gun solvent / oil / lube for a pistol as compared to what I use on my hunting rifles? I usually use Butch's Bore Shine to clean my rifles, and then apply some G-96 to the metal parts. Anything much different for a pistol?

Now... hopefully my ATT will arive soon so I can go try this baby out! :D

I have a CZ and they don't mind being treated rough. If you are using jacketed ammo, then patching with some solvent should be fine. Afterwards run a few dry pacthes through. What I do is

1) Push a solvent soaked patch through the bore, clear using a clean patch. Then a few strokes with a bronze brush with solvent. Patch the inside of the barrel dry.

2) Wipe the outside of the barrel, including the feed ramp. I then put a drop of lube on my fingers and moisten the barrel hood and the length of the barrel.

3) Wipe the inside of the slide with a cloth, especially the area around the firing pin and the grooved areas behind it. If necessary I use a toothbrush to lightly brush away at areas with build up, using a bit of solvent.

4) I usually put a drop of oil where the barrel hood meets the top of the slide, and put a film of oil along the area from the firing pin to the hammer. I then put a drop of oil in each of the grooves.

5) The frame usually only needs to be wiped down, and I put some oil on the grooves that connect to the slide.

6) I wipe clean the recoil spring assembly and run my fingers (which have a drop of oil on them) over the spring.

7) Reassemble, and wipe the outside of the pistol in areas where it is oily from being touched with oily fingers.

Magazines can be cleaned every couple of thousand rounds by disassembling and wiping the follower and spring, as well as the inside of the mag housing.

Good choice by the way. CZ's are nice pistols.

All I can add to that good reply is one place that is often forgotten in lubrication is both sides where the ramped part of the barrel touches the frame.

Use the wear in the bluing as a guide to what needs more oil than other places.
