just recieved my new american walnut stock from ironwood designs and am not really sure how or what kind of finish to go with. I would like to keep it dark in color and fairly tough to bumps and scrapes as this is no safe queen. Any sugestions?
 
If colour is very important to you then get some scrap wood of the same type of walnut and experiment. I'd go with pure 100% polymerized Tung oil, tinted to a colour I like. If you can't get a similar scrap of wood, then experiment in a place that will be covered. Once you are satisfied with the colour, do the rest of the stock.
