I’ve read online that the newer CZ P10 pistols have an improved mag release. It’s a one way mag release but swappable for lefties.

Does anyone have one of these? Is it really an improvement? Does it look like you could retroactively replace a standard safety with a new one?

I own a P10c and it’s a great pistol, but the mag release is tiresome (I’ve worked it over and it’s as good as it’s going to get). I could use an Apex release, but I plan to use this pistol in IDPA SSP division, and the use of aftermarket mag releases are forbidden.

However, you can drop in parts if they are available on other production models, hence the original question on parts compatibility.

Thanks for the help.

Hi did you find out where to get this new mag release?

I think I have the same problem. I have to really press on the mag release to get it to work.

How did you solve this problem?

What I gather from the P10c, the ambi release has a mag catch that interacts with a cutout in the center of the magazine. It rotates up to disengage when you push the release, the opposite way of the mag follower's spring tension is pushing which creates the resistance making it harder to press.
The P10F has a reversible mag release and it interacts with a cutout on the side of the mag, much like how a Glock mag release works.
Hopefully the way I described it makes sense.

I found out that the mag release area of the 2nd gen frames are different than the gen 1 frames so unfortunately the parts won't swap.

I ended up trying a spring from under a Bic lighter flint but it was too light and dropped magazines sometimes under recoil. If that spring was 50% heavier it would have been perfect.

After that I broke all the edges of the mag release button V area with a jewlers file, polished the heck out of it and the catch piece on all the rubbing surfaces, and then reassembled the gun with the original spring and worked it over and over while watching TV.

That made the catch usable with my off hand (my thumb's are too short to operate a mag release with my strong hand anyways). It still kinds sucks though, I'd say it's still worse than all the other pistols I've owned over my life time.

I've ordered a few spares and I'm going to experiment with cutting coils to see if that helps, but they won't arrive until spring (new springs in spring).

It's a bummer since the pistol is almost perfect in all other respects.
