My new Dominion Arms SOCOM 18 does not want to release its magazines unless I hold the release in, then give the mag a really good smack.
I tried filing a bit off the edge of the release where it contacts the mags, but either the file was too small to have much effect, or the steel is harder than you might expect.
Anyway, Plan B is to get out the Dremel but, before I do, I thought it might be worth trolling for other CGNutz who are presently, or have prevously, dealt with this issue. I don't want to go nutz with the dremelling if there is a better way.

If its anything like mine, you might not want to bother modding it right away. Mine started off quite difficult as well but after a couple range trips and a good amount of mag changes its much improved. Once you break it in you may not want to alter them.

Enjoy it.

thx! Yeah, now that you mention it, IIRC my first other Chinese M-14's mags were a bit sticky as well (I don't recall having to smack it).
The safety on that first Norinco was super stiff, but it got better over time, so it's likely that the mag thing will improve as you've predicted.
btw-- The safety on the new gun is (almost but not quite) as buttery smooth as the one on my first M-14 (the one I was issued in Germany).
thx for that reminder! :0 )

Mine mag release is very positive and mags release very easy can do Iraqi reloads with ease index on mine look good seems to be one of the good ones fingers crossed when I get some rounds out the pipe it it isn't a different storry. But to your problem I find with all Chinese firearms they get better with age do some mag changes with snap caps and get some rounds down range you'll probable find your problems will resolve themselves
