Hi,

I was hoping one of the milsurp experts could give me some help in determining the value of my M1 Garand:

- It is a Springfield Armory M1.
- The serial number is in the 1500000 range - which means it is a 1943 model, I believe.
- There is a small anchor on top of the receiver with the number 54** on it.
- The metal is practically mint - deep parkerizing everywhere. No rub marks, etc.
- The wood is equally mint, no gouges, dings etc.

I'd love to hear what it is worth.

I've taken it apart and have found the following markings:

- The trigger group is marked: 028290-12-SA
- The safety is marked SA
- The barrel is marked: VAR (Crown) D 6535448 11-68 308 DK (Small Crown)

It's difficult to say without pics but it sounds like you've got a Danish re-work. The price would depend on what kind of barrel it's got (ie. 1943, post war 50s or a VAR). Another thing you need to look at is the stock. Is it a USGI stock (with a cartouche) or a Danish beech wood stock? In addition is there a coin sized disk cut out in the bottom of the grip? Another thing you've got to look at is if the parts match. Are they all SA or are they a mixture of WRA IHC, HRA, PB etc... if you've got matching parts the rifle will be worth more.

Can't give you an exact number without pictures but I'd say around $1000 (maybe more depending on the details).

The VAR barrel is a Danish made replacement, so this is a Danish re-work, not original US GI. Most of the VAR barrels are lightly used and are excellent shooters. Some pics would be helpful to verify the condition, but you are probably looking at $1100-$1200 or thereabouts.

On the basis of the above pics the metal and stock are in very nice shape, so it should certainly be in the $1100-$1200 range, and maybe even $1300.

Place the rifle on anything BUT a white background, and let us have a good look. White background gives the camera a bellyache and it will produce crappy pics.

Idont know why some people think if a garand is all SA its matching. this idea is wrong. you have to check all numbers on all parts and find their DOB. every part that has a number or some with different machinin marks has to be checked. ex hammer safety op rod barrel bolt sights gas cylinders and other parts . do some research people. op more detailed pix needed.
