Hey guys,

Tool Town is on this weekend so after work I bought a digital caliper for 16.00 and tax.

Measuring some factory 9mm I got the following

124GR FMJRN Seller and Bellot COL 1.157"

124 GR FMJRN Blazer COL 1.154"

Spent cases (S&B) not resized were .745"

If anyone has the same ammo handy and wouldn't mind measuring with thier caliper please post the COL. I am going to start handloading soon and want to make sure that this cheap caliper is accurate. I am going to pickup the handloading kit from the post office tomorrow and recheck the spent cases after they are resized.

Thanks,
Cactus

Here is some measurements of Canadian coins that you can use to calibrate your calipers and scales:

Great idea, thanks!

I was trying to figure out what to test it on and a factory round was all that came to mind.

Funny thing is, the ammo could be slightly different sizes, especially considering S&B and Blazer are on the happy side of affordable. The coins are likely your best bet. I don't know about tool town, but I know the Princess auto cheapo's rate very highly. Lots of guys, with access to very professional equipment, still use the PA calipers, as they are good enough for most purposes, and it saves wear on their expensive equipment.

I measured the coins based on the data sheet and the caliper was very close to the posted data. Shouls be good as I don't plan to be right on the low or high OAL

Thanks

If you can turn the caliper on and zero it, then open it all the way and close it again and it returns to zero, you are close enough. After all a vernier will only get you within .001"-.002" depending on how ham-handed you are. If you are real gorilla this could be .005":p
