I recently acquired an American made Mosin Nagant made by New England Westing House. I was wondering if anyone knew aprox what they're worth? Very nice shape and bore is 8/10

Is it Finn marked? Does it have any original matching pieces (bolt, buttplate, original walnut stock)? Or is it a "Finn match" with mainly non-original parts but Finn revamped bolt? There are some mighty nice ones out there but for a basic "Finn-match" you might be looking at a low end of $350 or $400.

I remember way back when those US made Mosins could be had in excellent, unissued condition for less than a surplus 303 Brit. As in under $10. Like most, I am blessed with hindsight. Those rifles were all very well made with Walnut stocks. They had bores ranging from .308 to .311. Of course the biggest drawback was the mainstream media hype about the rifles being dangerous and inaccurate. Just like the Japanese Arisaka rifles they were politically maligned rather than factually evaluated. Bannerman's as well as other set the barrels back and rechambered some of them to 30-06. They also changed the bolt head/extractors for the rimless cartridge. The hue and cry deriding these rifles was heard all over North America. There were all sorts of horror stories of them blowing up because the 30-06 was to powerful for the action. What a bunch of suds shop balderdash. The rifles were made and tested for the 7.62x44R which had similar pressures to the 30-06.

I used one of those rifles for a few years. I had to hand load it with .312 bullets to get it to shoot well but there was never a sign of over pressure.

Back on topic.

The New England Westing House and Remington rifles do command a premium in North America just because they were made here.

If the rifle is in VG condition with a 8/10 bore and isn't Finn marked $325 would be fair. If it is in the same shape but Finn Marked add $75-$100. If it's all matching, add another $100 no matter who had it.

I have a NEW Mosin with a Finn marking that wasn't torn down and restocked. It still has its original stock. The rifle's outer condition is "been there, done that twice." The bore is excellent. I would value this piece at $400. That of course is IMHO. What I could get for it is another thing.

Price fixing is irrelevant, especially this time of year. December to February are usually the best time to BUY firearms and accessories. You can only sell the firearms for what the market will bear at any given time.

There were two million US made Mosins. Many weren't shipped because the Czar was on the way out in 1914. The existing stockpiles were sold off to recoup some of their value to surplus markets/Finns/US gov't to use as training rifles and arm their Expiditionary Force.

That's a nice, well made rifle. You might consider keeping it as a base for a collection of Mosins to build on.

There are two ways to tell if the Finns took custody of it at one time or another. The most obvious would be the finger jointed stock. The next would be a VKT or SA mark on the chamber area. Now I am not an expert by any means. I know just enough to get myself into trouble. Lots of Mosin collectors on this site that can give you more and likely more accurate information. Likely the prices are pretty close but someone will chime in they picked up a one off at some sale for substantially less and wouldn't pay more than that for one. Likely it will be the last one available in their price range.

Things that are going to help determine value.

Is it Finnish Marked (SA stamp, renumbered rear sight etc.)
Is it counter-bored
Is it all matching as it was originally made or is it a mix-master
Is it in a two-piece Finnish stock or a single piece (and is it the original one to the rifle or is it a replacement)
Etc.

Pictures really are the best way to get a accurate reperesentation of what you have and a accurate price point. Any M91 Infantry rifle in a Finnish stock with Finnish markings (unless something like a Châtellerault) is going to be in the 400$ area, in my opinion, however the little details make a big difference.
