New factory 8mm mauser ammo in a TNW MG34

I have a TNW mg34 and have been using surplus fmj ammo.Will any of the new manufactured 8mm mauser commercial Winchester, federal offerings function and cycle in these guns ? The Winchester /federal etc offerings are intended for hunting and are jacketed soft points etc.
While I appreciate the opinions of all CGN members,I would prefer to hear from Mg34 owners on this matter.

I think they make the commercial loads for rifles instead of MGs primarily. I'm not even sure if you could put a 8mm rifle round in an MG but I think putting an MG round in a rifle is a very bad idea.

Could be wrong though as I don't own a semi automatic mg.
 
well dont have the semi mg34 BUT do have the semi auto browning 1919

I have fired handloaded .308 and 8mm mauser thru it they work fine with hotter loads to cycly the action i suspect any 8mm will work for you as i dont recall the germans having a specific 8mm mg rnd.....
 
I was more concerned with the soft point feeding , I never felt the power required to cycle the action would be a problem
 
A guy I know has one, and he had some feeding problems using Igman SP ammo.
I ended up trading him a bunch of FMJ for his SP to get him going.

Hi maybe I can be some help.Many of the TNW SA MG -34 have a problem with the extractor.Do you have this problem first off.Apparently TNW does not machine this part properly.Their tolerances are all over too short too long.You can get a kit from BRP called the Tune up kit for MG-34.If your gun is shooting kind of OK still get this kit.Just to make sure.This will fix a majority of MG-34 problems that is pertinent to the TNW.Next comes ammo The German WW2 round has a 197 gr bullet.To make sure your gun runs properly I would reload my own rounds using the bullets by Hornady 195 Gr./197gr.with 51 gr of Varget or reload 15.this will make that babby purr...
If you don't reload use commercial ammo made by Sellier & Belliot again 195 gr or a little more.American ammo is just too week for a MG-34.

Hey panzercanuck, I've got one of the TNW MG34s and my buddy just got one from Marstar (yes they actually had one returned that was not functioning properly and sold it as is). I bought mine off the EE early this year and it was in terrible shape, couldn't even pull the bolt back and after a lot of filing got the bolt back but couldn't pull the trigger. Some more filing on the trigger release which was catching on the bolt and finally seemed to be working (I may be describing this wrong but it was my buddy who took it all apart and figured out what the problem was). Took it to the range and it worked!! The more I shot it the smoother it got. We took both to the range yesterday and his would fire twice and jam up. The 2nd empty wouldn't eject. We tried swapping parts but my bolt wouldn't go into his. Today, he took his bolt apart and found the extractor all filled up with crud. Figures that to be the problem and will give it another try soon. Anyways who is BRP, would like to get a Tune-up kit. Btw we have about 3k rds of 8mm milsurp from 3 different mfgs and they all work fine. Haven't tried any commercial stuff.

lol... this question is goin to sound f'ed up but can you hunt with a semi auto belt fed in canada and if so would that MG34 be accurate ennough to lets say a 100 meters
 
for sure being non-restricted, but the real question is, do you really want to carry that large slab of metal around with you ;)... I don't got the 34, but if its as heavy as a 42, then no thanks!

I did see a pretty sweet ATV mount for the 1919a4 on the 1919a4 forums though :D, i thought that would be pretty bad@ss. Along with a tow-along unit behind the ATV with the M2hb mounted!

I dont know enough of all the various PROVINCIAL hunting regs, but I dont believe it would be against FEDERAL regs.

However, it would attract a LOT of unwanted attention, so you damn well better have all of your other tags and permits in order.

Yes, it would be very accurate if you shoot off the bipod. If you try to shoot offhand, you'll tip over first.

Getting back to your problem BRP makes a perfect parts to remedy your friends 34.They BRP makes what they called "The MG-34 tune up kit" for $35.00 US.In this kit you get bolt extractor pin an extra .005" longer. 2 x Bolt roller spring clips new Bolt ejector spring .You do have a choice to buy original or new pieces opt for new.If you need any more help just post me .

I know from experience a C6 or the big 50 would be accurate ennough with iron sights but im pretty sure i can't just go get one at work and hunt with it, with the bipod or tripod of course im not john rambo... But i think it would be cool to shoot a deer with one of those... I mean its not that hard to put up a little setup and wait for a doe to come... I would do it if i had one :) the picture would be kinda neat with the MG laying next to the deer!

mmmmm ATV mount :D. Sporting no. Fun yes.

At one time, I had the idea of Coyote hunting with a MG34. There was a nice area with a small trench (drainage, but dry in summer) and a river. Set up an angle like a flank position so they have to come between you and the river. Have a buddy further down (way down and not anywhere near where you'll be shooting) shoot/drive them towards the area. Was just a thought.
