i was using this FAB Defense (PR-870) forend w/ my SureFire X300 LED, and i just didn't quite like how big it was.

so since i'm always looking to clean things up, i decided to install this small picatinny rail onto my factory Police forend. basically, we drilled out the holes and put little nutserts(spell?) in, and screwed the rail on.

the only problem, is that i feel the nutserts aren't strong enough to withstand a harsh bump. they may rip out!?

does anybody have ANY other ideas for mounting this rail onto the forend?

keep in mind - there is NO room inside the forend for anything (ex: a nut, t-nut, etc...). that is why the nutsert works well, cause it's flush w/ the inside of the forend. ideally i would love to use a nut on the inside and just screw the torx screw into it, and crank it down. but i can't. and i don't have access to the inside of the forend to drill out a pocket to make a nut flush, cause the forend is fully enclosed in order to wrap around the mag tube...

Why don't you use a small tap to create threads (use lots of cutting oil if you do). If you don't feel that's good enough, maybe you could find heely coils to fit in there?

Just my .02$

i have a tap/ die set to make threads in the forend, but i feel this won't be quite as strong as i like. the treads could strip if over-tightened.

What about epoxy?

what epoxy would mate anodized aluminum to the plastic material ("30% glass-filled polymer") of the foend?

You could put Heli coils in the plastic forend. They are basically a stainless steel thread which is stronger than the plastic. Any machine shop could do it. You need a special tap and the proper heli coils, so for a one off job it would be cheaper to have it done than to buy the stuff to do it. And has been said before, loctite is your friend.

Go to Crappy tire and look through the endless supply of epoxy, you'll find something that will work. Or go to your local autobody shop and see they'll dab some panel bond on it for you, that'll hold (make sure you have the forend with you tho).

the forend is ribbed, and therefore would be kinda sloppy to epoxy on the rail. not to mention a goofy way of doing it. i love the cleanliness of the nutserts - even when the rail is off! the look super sleek...

I've never actually looked at prices.. How much are helicoils? Because I'm pretty sure they come with that special tap you are talking about..
