Hey Everyone,

I've been lurking around for awhile, soaking up as much as I can. First time posting though.

My name is Tyler, I grew up in the Lower Mainland and moved to Squamish three years ago. Grew up in a non hunting/firearm family so this is all new to me. Last year I got my restricted and non-restricted PAL and did my CORE as well. I have yet to purchase a firearm but am planning on it soon.

The areas that I see my interests in so far are: hunting, reloading, historical firearms and in general becoming a good marksman.

I'm also a rock climber (a boulderer for those that know the difference) and am an apprentice carpenter.

Tyler

Welcome aboard,

You are lucky to have a great range in your own town.

If you are interested, the local exec members are usually around on Sunday mornings if you want to check out the facilities.:welcome:

Thanks for the offer T2003. Some of my friends are new members and I plan on being one soon. I actually took my CORE there although funnily enough I haven't seen the rifle range.

You are kidding right? Its a great range if your a duck hunter," QUACK QUACK". The Squamton Rotten Gun Club has issues with handgunners and black rifle users. LEAVE the handgun range alone who ever you are mr executive member.

Hey Cheeseburger,

Welcome aboard. This is a great place to soak up info and ask questions. I really took my time as well to make my first purchases but it is definitely worth it. As for the rock climbing you lucky SOB... I'm a climber as well but we don't have too much to climb in southern ontario.

We take our black rifles up there all the time and never have any issues with Joe Hunter, and yes I am not happy about the pending burn down of the outdoor pistol range as we spend half of our time there when at the range.

If you are a voting member then maybe you can do something about that.

.

Thanks. Yeah, that's why I moved to Squamish. If you ever come out here give me a shout. You have the Glen and the Escarpment, no? It's not the same but you still have some. Unlike Manitoba....

Why are the burning down the pistol range? I heard that they were going to replace it? Is this true? This may be a dumb question but whats the problem with guys using Black Powder? Are they taking the place over or what?

The last time we talked to local voting members they said they "may" try to re align the outdoor pistol range due to the gravel pit nearby, I really do not know how it will all play out as I cannot picture how they would do that?

However I suppose it is like most clubs were some members will push ideas through that may negatively affect other shooting disciplines that they are not interested in.

When we refer to "Black Rifles" on here, we are talking about AR15's and other military styled rifles, not black powder.

Welcome, I work at the airport in squamish. I know a few good shootin hunting spots around town. we should go shootin sometime. I would like to check out the range too some day.

heliwrench,

I'm in for shooting whenever. I work framing in Furry Creek til 5pm during the week though which doesnt really give you any daylight, at least not at this time of year. Do you live in Squamish? I'm around on the weekends. Currently I don't own a firearm though.

Wow, I can't believe how many people from around here are one the forum. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Currently I'm researching what I'm going to buy at this point. Have some ideas so far but always looking for input. I will be shooting as a lefty since I am very left eye dominant. Can't even close my right eye by its self its both or left! So thinking about puchasing a Savage Mark II GL .22LR and a 7mmRM Tikka T3 Lite.

Welcome to the board. I used to live around there too, and shoot at the SVRGC range. I dont know about this whole pistol range 'issue' but last time i just shot my pistol along with other black rifles at the rifle range part. Hell i organized a CGN shoot at that range with no problems from the execs, etc. so i dunno what the problem is.
