New From Toronto Looking to get a gun license.

Gun License is not like a fishing license where you can purchase them from a fishing store or sport store. IT CAN NOT be purchased!!! You need to take and pass the Government Non-restricted course (non-restricted class long guns) and Restricted course (restricted class firearms) to be certified. THEN you can apply (NOT purchase) for firearms license that will be issued to you by the CFC.
 
Newb or troll, running the user name through Wordsmith.org. comes up with such gems as "Legalise as* toy" and "Goalie as* style" and many more humorous results. Just couldn't go with "T. Smith" could ya?:D

The link in Esto's post is your best starting point. It's a long process but worthwhile if you're an enthusiast.
 
Whoa big fella! Where did you get the idea that you could "buy" a gun license? You must do a safety and handling course to qualify for a permit to buy/own any firearm, and a further hunters safety course to get a hunting license. You can PM me if you wish, and we can talk in person about some of your misconceptions. I'm always happy to mentor a newbie if I can, and if you're a troll, and I can provide you with an education based on fact and reason, not skewed stats and brainless scare mongering. Let me know.

Taygisellesosa: I bring genuine welcome to the site. Don't mind the neeners on this website. He have a bad habit of treating newbies badly here. You'll get used to it, and will find most people helpful. You will learn lots.

I'm in Toronto as well. Our city needs more shooters/hunters so again, welcome.

As for getting your license:

1. Take your Unrestricted = long guns (1.5 day course) or your Unrestricted/restricted = handguns and assorted fun stuff course (2 day) at any number of places in the GTA. Personally I liked www.guns.to . The course is $160/$265 according to their website. Check out the website for more info.

2. Submit paperwork. The guns.to people will help explain, but you gotta mail away your papers.

3. Pass a security check. The CFC/RCMP will run your name through their systems looking for any reason you shouldn't own guns like criminal records etc. You will also need to provide personal references as well as your wife/spouse/ex-wife and they will be contacted asking if there is any reason why you shouldn't be given a license.

4. Wait. Times vary, but expect a minimum of 30 days, and possibly many months.

5. Get license. Delivered in the mail.

6. Go shopping. GTA has a few stores, but the site sponsors here (mostly out west) kick ass supreme. Beware this is not a poor mans sport, but you can participate for relatively little up front. It is the addiction that makes it expensive as your taste and knowledge improve.

The usual's...lol, right :rolleyes: That might be the first time I have ever used the word "troll" here; I certainly don't make a habit of it.

I was actually just trying to inject a little humor..did you notice the smiley faces?

If the guy is NOT a "liberal troll" (which I agree is unlikely) I'm sure he was not offended...if he is (unlikely) I don't care.

I agree that too many accusations of TROLL is pretty uncool.
