I just received my Glock 22 with 3 new 10 round mags and they are tighter than a frogs a$$ to load. I've never felt a magazine spring so strong before. Once i get to about 6 and 7 rounds in the mag tension is incredibly stiff. I found nothing physically in the mags that would increase the spring tension, so i'm wondering do all mags from the factory come this way?

thanks

here are a few things to do...

1. use a file and cleanup the internal plastic parts...always some excess from molding..

2. keep it loaded

3. if all doesnt work get some pinned mags...i use these for competition.

4. Cut a coil off the mag spring!

Ive noticed this before, I think the spring gets stuck on occasion. Try all of the above..but also see about disassembling and putting it back together.

In my experiences the Glock mag the problem of the design .
I can't believe someone hasn't made a better mag.
When Glock went to the 10 round mag they never worked as good as the earlier full capacity magazines .

I purchased a GLOCK 22 a couple of weeks ago as well and have noted the same thing. Besides the good tips already presented, I've found that sometimes the rounds will single stack- just give the mag a little smack on the base and you're good to go.

The magazine spring does not get caught on anything. It can't get caught on anything, the magazine is steel lined from top to bottom in a single piece design. The springs are simply stiff, they're supposed to be stiff. As for the mag being the down side to the Glock, how so?? It really isn't that tough to load all 10 in a new mag, just takes some practice. Leaving them loaded does help them take a set. Making loading them a fair bit easier. On the upside, you never have to worry about rounds popping out of the mag when you drop it. :)

Edit: The 10 round magazines ARE single stack. The steel lining has a very distinct steel "rib" that prevents the rounds from staggering, allowing the full 17 round capacity.

I think they get hung up on occasion and start to single stack. My buddies mags do this all the time...sometimes they load fine..other times you can get maybe 5 in...a reloading tool wouldnt help...they are virtually siezed. Then next time they function fine..

Pardon my ignorance (I'm new :) ), my 10 rounder's appear to have every second round slightly offset horizontally/vertically as viewed through the witness holes. Seems they will stack directly on top of each other periodically and make inserting the last couple of rounds impossible until they assume their correct alignment.

The rounds do stagger slightly. Take your mag apart and drop some rounds in. They definitely do not stack in a traditional staggered format. You are correct, depending on which way they "stack" it does appear to be a staggered design, I can assure you they don't. ASk yourself this. The magazine bodies from 10 rd to 17 rd are identical in outside dinemsions. SO how would you limit capacity to 10 without a blocker/plug similar to the enlarged floor plates on say a SIG 226 mag? The answer is the steel rib on the inside of the mag, creating a single stack format.

I disassembled my neutered G-19 mags and trimmed about 2mm off of the follower legs. It seemed to help. I also left out the internal bottom plate and that leaves another mm or two. Mine load no problem now.

If you can locate some "original" capacity 17 round mags that have been "pinned" to 10 rounds, you'll find them a dream to load. This is why many of us are always in search of these mags for various double stack guns. You're only loading one of these mags to about half-capacity when you use 10 rounds in a 17 rounder.

Best wishes, Jeff.

you can buy LEO mags new and used from cdnninvestments.com for about 13 bucks USD. or 10 used if they have them in stock. you just have to pin them when you bring them in.

Speaking of... couldnt you just put a nail or something in there to "pin" it? then remove it later?

I bought 5 mags , 10 rounders with the new G21 . I can load 6 rounds in each mag but for 7 , 8 , 9 and 10 i have to use the loader . The loaded mags go in until the last half inch and then i have to give them a good smack to seat them .

I've got 6 used 10rnd G17 mags on the way from CDNN, for $10 US each...

Sorry, I ordered last week!

But you're helping to spread the word, and hopefully drive down the ridiculous prices we see in Canada!
