Hello everyone,

I just got my first restricted firearm today, a Gen4 Glock 17 and was just playing with it at home taking it apart and just inspecting it. Everything seems to be the way it should however there is something that is a little strange. With the slide locked back, if I try to move the rear of the slide sideways very lightly while holding onto the frame, I hear a snapping type of sound. The gun is brand new and the action cycles flawlessly. I am not familiar with Glocks and was wondering If this was normal. Can someone who has one tell me if they experience the same noise? Everything about the gun is great otherwise, espeoally since I got it with their LE discounted price.

Thanks in advance

Still have not shot it since I am waiting for my LTATT. I was just wondering if any glock owners experienced this before... I have dry tested everything and I can't seem to find any issues with it

As a guy with a lot of glock time in, I have absolutely no idea if this is normal because I have never checked.

My advice would be:

1) don't worry

2) shoot 3, 5, or 10 thousand rounds through it

3) if it has issues you will discover them over time

4) if the snapping is indicative of some major problem, and the gun fails all over the place, Glock will fix it

5) don't worry

I'm reminded of the story where the guy tells his Dr. "it hurts when I do this" and the Dr. replies...."then don't do that!".

Snapping might not be the right sound to describe it as... I'm pretty sure it's a slight clunk... Just waiting for the LTATT to go out and shoot it!!!

Issues with a new glock? Feeding the Pig maybe.:p

Weird, crunchy, springy noises are normal here. If it's your first pistol, you have nothing to compare to, so do as Misanthropist stated in his post.

These are built to run as close to fool proof as humanly possible right of the line. ;)

You won't need to tweak this, and chamfer that ,and enlarge this, and so on and so forth, as with other antiquated designs, or their far eastern copy.

When you get your permit to convey, and a few hundred rounds of economical ball ammo...., unless you limp wrist the G17, being new to pistols, I'm sure there's going to be a bang and maybe even a hole, for everytime you squeeze the trigger.

Don't worry,...Be happy!

My new Gen4 17 makes the same click with the slide locked back and the magazine removed. I've shot it a couple hundred times without issue.

I'm sure your pistol is fine.
