Hey guys , just got my garmin 62. I played around with it this morning and last night. Great first impression. Seems like a great one , great reviews , robust , none touch screen and best above all , takes AA batteries and not hard on batterie life.

I'm downloading garmins topographique Canada map onto it now. I'll post a more detailed review once I have it out into the wilderness. If anyone is interested in getting a gps I say this is the one , wether you use it on a snowmobile , quad , boat , setting a trap line or fishing ect. Lots of features.

Yes that's why I went with the st , it takes the chip under the batteries. I've read good things about Icarus for the marsh and Boggs layout. I'll play around with it a bit more once I'm finished night shift.

I have a 62ST, great GPS, never let me down. It spend 3 days on the bottom of a lake after flipping my kayak fishing one time. Found it 3 days later, retrieved it, turned it on and its never missed a beat. Very happy with it.

I've had the 60/62 series for years and they have never let me down. I am using Garmin TOPO maps right now, always wanted to try the Backroads GPS maps for detail. Do they offer any advantage I wonder over the Garmin maps?

Yes. Much more detail.

I have the ST. I love it. I managed to "find" a copy of Backroads Mapbook which works great! Im looking for the Bluchart of whatever its called now. Ive got a 32gb card in it. I like how it doubles as a turn by turn road gps as well.

What are the Icarus topo maps? Or do you mean Ibycus Topo Maps?
I have the Garmin Topo, Backroads Ontario and Ibycus. I find the Garmin to be at the bottom of the list, even the free Ibycus 4.0 is much better. Backroads has a lot of trails and other features the others don't.

I have been using Etrex (Legend and Vista)models for years, the HCX models are my favourite (H-high sensitivity GPS, C-colour screen, X-extra memory via SD card). I also have the new Etrex 30, not a big fan of it other than the control knob being on the right side making it easier to use one handed for a Right handed person, I guess the older models would be better for a lefty! I had so many problems with the 30 I was ready o just throw t in a drawer ad forget about it. It wouldn't take an update and would shut down and or freeze. It finally took an update and is much better now, I am going to give it a second chance.

I am now curious about this 62 model, but I need a new GPS like I need a new gun!
