New gun, get what you pay for.

Shamelessly stolen, but fitting none the less.

It's all been covered in the previous three pages, the Stevens 200 is the cheapest production rifle in the world.

What did you think you were buying?

Back when you could get a Stevens for $300 I though you were getting MORE than what you were paying for. Now that they are $400 (of course all the other guns went up too so it is all relative) I still think they are OK for the money...I must I just bought one.

I went through the same thought process when I decided I needed a new rifle. Low on cash and wanted something that would reasonably handle anything (large-ish) I might want to hunt for the foreseeable future. I also wanted something with a proven track record.
I ended up with a sproterized Swedish Mauser from T.E.C. (6.5X55), added Leupold rings and a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X. About $700 all in.
Couldn't be happier.

For around $250 you can upgrade the trigger and replace the stock.

For another $250 he could have just bought a T3.

I have a Stevens 200 in 243. After researching it first, it arrived just as I expected. Good enough for a hunting rifle without spending another cent on it. At todays prices they are not the deal they use to be.

I have a Stevens 200 in 308 and I'd have to say out of all my rifles it has taken the most game! It might not be the cutiest thing that i've ever held or the smoothest but it does its job and thats all that matters!
