New gun, Savage 93R17 BVTSS

Hi folks,

I just took a brand new Savage 93R17 BVTSS out to the range today with a brand new Leupold 2-7 VX1 33mm. By FAR the most accurate rifle I own. The gun shoots better than I do. The accutrigger is great. I was a littel worried about it, but my fear were unjustified. The trigger is light and clean. (Still no where near my Jewell trigger on my Remy 700, but still really good). With a bi-pod, it shoots 1MOA with me using my fist to hold the back of the stock on a shooting bench. I'm super sure it can do .5 MOA with bags. I was using remington .17HMR. I am so pleased with the gun and even more pleased with the calibre. .17HMR is fast and accurate and the Hornady V-MAX bullets completely disintegrate upon hitting ANYTHING.

I wish I had my camera with me, because a butterfly landed on my target at 50 yards so I tried to smoke it. The really big butterfly evaporated instantly and the only tell tale sigh was the fine mist spray of it's guts on the target. I laughed my ass off. Poof!

If anyone was considering this gun, I for one have no reservations.

a big rabbit ? I dont think Id trust such a small shell on anything bigger, sure it could kill a coyote if the placement was right, I personally would just like something with a little more oomf.

A big butterfly.
I would not use it on anything bigger than a ground hog.

Try the 20 Gr. Hornady hollow point. It reduced my groups by half.

I would imagine coyotes with a well placed shot with the 20grHP at 75 yards or less would go down. They should make a 25grHP.

I dropped a coyote at 200 yd with my Savage .17HMR. I have a 6-24x Tasco scope on my rifle. Also it will drop a deer at a 100 yds with a head shot.

your legally allowed to shoot a deer with a rimfire in your province ? your not in BC, nor would I recommend a 17hmr for a deer lol.
