hey im new to this site and to firearms in general that arnt CO2 powered (im a paintball player) im goin to be getting my gun permit soon and i want to know if anyone knowz the best place to get both of my permits for cheap or just who the best overall school is, and also i want to know what peoples opinions on the best pistol is ( i have shot pistols befor so dont worry about the begginer pistols) and as for rifles my only exp. is with .22 and a 30/06 once, so i want a good highpowered rifle that is affordable and well made, any suggestions?

without knowing where you are it is not going to be very easy to recommend any place for you take the courses, "the best" and "for cheap" dont often exist together...

Id find the gun clubs nearest you and give them a call, if you intend to buy a restricted gun your going to need a membership anyway, so let a gun club membership be your first expense, most gun clubs will hold classes for folks who want PAL and RPAL...they may even have a mentoring program of some sort, be sure and ask.

Once you've had some exposure to the various guns (while spending all your time at the gun club) you may better understand what sort of guns fit you best and then you'll be able to determine which guns you like with some sense of what they are in the back of your head.

MudChucker said all the right things. My 2 cents worth is that what gun you pick should depend to a large degree on what fits your hand well. I've never really believed in the idea of a "beginner's" gun. There may be some .22s easier to shoot than .44 Magnums, but any gun is serious in the hands of a serious shooter. Try to find a place where you can (best) shoot different handguns, or at least (next best) hold some and see how they feel and point in your hand. For instance, in my case the pistol that absolutely fits best in my hand is unfortunately a "prohibited" pistol, the Remington Model 51 (small hands). However, the H&K P-7 is a close second, and that's what I have.
