What do people like these days in the new style round AR Handgaurds/forends/rails (whatever terminology)?

I have a 16" barrel for an AR that is going to be mated to a new upper, and I would like a light, easy install free float handgaurd/forend. I have been looking at DD, Troy, Apex, and MI. I have a Troy quad rail on my shorty barrel upper.

I would like to stay around the 10" range to keep weight down, unless there is a compelling reason to have a longer rail. I don't hang tons of stuff off the rifle, just a light occasionally. I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks. :)

Get the BCM KMR-10. 6.3oz with barrel nut - lightest out there.

Any of the various ones I have on different ARs. It's not really a critical component IMO, as long as it's doing its job. Sure, a bit of weight and size savings would be nice, but if I have a DD RIS ii or a Troy Bravo or a Seekins SAR or a Centurion or whatever, I'm not going to race out and change it.

Agreed. Although I did run for the KMR and it was totally worth it. = )

The URX 4 requires the removal of the old barrel nut and gas system, for this you must have the standard AR tools or the correct barrel nut wrench for the currently installed rail system. You then torque on the new URX 4 with the supplied adapter wrench. The rail is timed using a set of shims supplied with the kit. The gas system goes on after the rail is installed thus you must use a low profile gas block the is retained by set screws that are tightened thru a key hole slot in the bottom of the rail. You can not us and type of pinned or taper pinned gas block as you do not have access to the taper pins once the rail is on.

Installation is not that difficult as long as you have the correct tools to hold the upper and remove the old barrel nut.

The barrel I am putting this on has a pinned/welded flash hider, and it's the standard AR Front sight/gas block. For my existing Troy rail, I had to cut down the FS, since getting it off the barrel was not happening... still not, so the KAC URX may not be the solution. I need something that will slide over the complete gas block and gas tube already assembled I think.

How do you run your AR's exactly?

Ultimately you're gonna have hundreds of different suggestions for hundreds of different reasons. What are your primary concerns? Weight? Strenght? Versatility? accesssories? Price? Ease of installation? ...all of the above?

Ok, so you have a barrel with a pinned flash hider and a standard FSB, but no barrel nut? WTF is this (and what mfg created this ####)? You're asking for an impossibility.

Or you have a standard barrel nut already mounted behind this mess? (I hope so, and that would reduce your options by 10³, not necessarily a bad thing)

Can you post some pics please?

The AERO M4E1 uppers are really nice too. You do need their matching upper to use he hand guards but their fit up is very tight and they offer quad rail, m-lok, and keymod. Really nice setup.
