Anyone know when the next generation of hatsans will be showing up in Canada?Hoping to pick up an MPA with the money the government didn't need. Looks like the new MPAs come with a heat shield. Wondering if there will be major price increases because of the dollar.

The new Escort Raider is pretty bad looking. It's probably a good thing it won't be here any time soon.

The 14" Optima Aimguard??? It looks good, but the Defender looks better. Do you know when they will be expected? This year??

Yeah, except they are Escorts not Optimas as listed.
With the Defender you get a rather flimsy heatsheild, a textured stock and the extra long modern styled forend with a rail. Basically its a mini Hatsan MPS. If you could handle each side by side , I think you'd realize how frivolous those added features are and choose the compact.

Any difference in capacity? I have seen the new one printed as 5+1, the old one at 4+1.

You know...I see 4+1 listed for a few different 14" shotguns, and my experience is that they are actually always 5+1.

Bare in mind, the Escort and Optima are the same gun though. My Optima is a little bit nicer than my Escorts, but its an early import with a laser etched OPTIMA name.

Also I don't mean to downplay the Defender either. Its a great gun. The heatsheild is thin and will dent when/if impacted. It does not move and looks good, so flimsy probably wasn't the right description. The Defender stock is also nice and is sturdy. Recoil pads on these can vary from poor to passable, so look at that too.

Thanks for the help, can the heat shield be removed easily if required? If so I could make better one down the road. 5+1 for both is a good though and the old style is available now......................

I know if it's a tube mag and advertised as 4+1 a lot of the time it's 4x 3" shells +1, but you can fit 5x 2-3/4" +1 in the tube, might be some of the confusion.

Yes this is likely the answer. After all, the gun is chambered in 3". Which means it of course accommodates 2 3/4. But 3" is the referenced factory size .

Had a look at an Optima aim guard today. Seems much better than the Norinco for fit for me. Looks like a red dot could be mounted to a rail on it.

The Hatsan action is also much smoother than Norincos and the whole thing is lighter weight. A pleasure to manipulate.
The Aimguard just shoulders and points so naturally.
