New here and to shooting in general

Hi everyone,

New shooter, came to the sport mainly for hunting. I bought a .308 howa rifle for this and I'm now looking at precision shooting but on a budget so to speak (looking for a bolt action .22LR with an accuracy I can grow into). I can see myself investing in reloading gear in the future too, shooting .308 for fun is far from cheap! This community seems to fit the bill!

I also shoot a bow (barebow recurve), might hunt with it too if I get good enough!

See you somewhere in the forum pages!

Jonathan.

Welcome to the forum. I just put together a CZ452 pro varmint but I think I should have looked into an Anschutz 1761 MSR if that points you in the right direction.
I'll have to add Anschutz to the shopping list! Did you have the chance to fire/handle both?

Welcome!

Howa in .308 is a great choice!

Don't wait to get into reloading... I have been using a lee hand press, beam scale, etc... for years. You can get set-up for around $250 if you are super cheap and have more time than money.

For a precision .22 on a budget I would go CZ 457 or Tikka T1X with a heavy varmint barrel. Both these rifles are reletively inexpensive and have great aftermarket support... lots of chassis options.

No have not had a chance to shoot the Anschutz. I have a CZ though that seems to like cci subsonic. Five shot groups I am usually around .600 ctc some are better though. The anschutz is a little tighter and has a nicer trigger but tossing around value for money. I don’t compete or anything. The cz is a fine rifle though.

I'll have to say, a CZ seems like the more affordable of the 2 by quite a bit. Still shopping, and still wondering about this option and that and ...

Welcome to the community, I am a new member also. I actually have a .308 myself that I am starting to get setup for precision shooting.

Hello Matt,

The Howa sure feels nice and seems to shoot where I want it too!

I'll have to check for reloading, I for 250, I'm sure it pays for itself quite faster than I thought!

I'm leaning on a used CZ, probably the cheapest I can find in good working condition.

Thanks for sharing and see you around!

Hello and welcome!

I did pick .308 considering it was used for precision shooting and hunting, I sadly dont have access to a very long distance shooting range..
