New hunter and pretty new to fire arms

I haven't hunted yet,but from all the research I've done so far I think 6.5x55 seems quite reasonable. Also used for big game. Maybe anyone with experience with this cartridge can shed more light?
 
You're in Mission. Drive to Van City, down to Fraser and stop in to talk to the boys at Reliable. Third Generation family run business and they will treat you well. You won't go wrong with the '06 for anything in BC. A used 2.5-8x Leupold is all the scope that you'll ever need and comes with a lifetime warranty with the service centre in Canada.
