New hunter/shooter

Got a savage 99 hunting rifle a few months ago as a gift. Since I have to wait until hunting season to use it, I got a .22 and I'm going to try some silhouette shooting.

Next I wanna get a .22 handgun for silhouettes... and then... etc.

Don't wait, grab a box or 2 of ammo and go practice to get comfortable with it. I love my 2 99's. 300 Savage is a great little cartridge.

"...have to wait until hunting season to..." You do need to try a box of as many brands of ammo as you can to find the ammo it shoots best, then sight in and practice. Practice, standing, at 100 yards, on a 9" pie plate until you can hit it every time. A 9" pie plate is about the size of the kill zone on most game.

If you wait until hunting season, you'll likely be disappointed in your performance with the rifle.
