new hunting knife suggestions????

I'm glad you posted this here because if I mentioned my suggestion in the knife forum they might use me for practice.

I use a cheap 20 Canadian Tire knife. I can't remember the brand but it has the picture of a mountain in the background. It looks like a rosewood handle I doubt it is. It has a gut hook and a shealth with a plastic insert to keep the knife from cutting it.

Before you cut down the pick... get it cut... HA.. couldn't resist... This knife holds a razor edge. I bought it for sh1ts and giggles because it was 20 bucks a couple years ago, sharpened it and used it. The elk rancher I was with wanted to know where I got it because it worked better than his set that he used in his butcher shop.

Plus, if you lose it or forget it in the bush, your only out 20 bucks.

I love the nice 200 dollar knives but I'm a little paranoid that I'd lose it.

Just my 2 cents.

I cound't give a hoot about expensive knives. Is it sharp? Does it fit? I have such a knife, paid $15.00 at the gun show. It's my favourite, if I loose it, I don't care, but it does the job. For me, expensive knives are just not worth it. I'd rather spend my money on good optics.

I use a Puma White Hunter that was my fathers and his fathers before him. Best weighted knife I have ever held. It feels like heaven in my hand.

I have two. A Knives of Alaska, pro hunter, guide association or something or other, it was expensive, but it'd be lighter to take the band saw.

The knife I use daily is a $60 gerber with a grippy handle, LOVE IT !!

I have two knives I use for out in the bush. I use a Kershaw Alaskin Blade Trader with the 3 pc. blades and handle, and I love the versatillity of it. It's got the wide skinning blade with the gut hook, the narrow regular blade, and the bonesaw that all interchange on the handle. $50 at Walmart, and holds a razor sharp edge, even after processing 1 deer and three bears. Great knife set, and very solid feeling!

Then, for my all around bush knife I use my beautiful authentic Gil Hibben, Rambo III (yeah, I know, sounds silly:p) knife, all 16" of it!

It's my favourite. Excellent steel, laminated handle, 11" x 1/4" blade, and solid. It's my machete, hatchet, hotdog stick maker, and all around manly knife.:D

I have a blade trader too. It is a good knife and the bone saw is a nice to have. I wouldn't want to 1/4 a moose with it but does work fine for pelvis and brisket. I also have a Rapella soft grip that is nice to use & a small Winchester that feels great in my hand.

As for an all around knife, pick 1 that feels good in your hand and is sharp. Keep it sharp!

I have two kinds-the nice ones I keep at home-and the Chinese $20 ''Carolina'' brand[believe it or not-it keeps a good edge too] I carry in the bush...I have this habit of putting my knife down after field dressing a deer and leaving it,and after losing a few Bucks and Kershaws,I pack Carolina's now ....same goes for rifles-I have a really nice Ruger#1 that I carry on nice days-and a bubba'd 6.5x55 swede that I carry on rainy days-and shoot most of my deer with.

Go ON EBAY I got 4 very nice knives on there and it only cost a penny a peace. the shipping was 15 Very good steel an they hold a eadge. Just a sugeston that worked for me
