Since I am retiring from CAF after 34 years and 9 month of service this September I decided to give a myself a retirement gift.

I replaced the factory barrel on my 455 with a 20 inch 1/12 twist IBI heavy barrel. Been looking at heavy barrels for a while so figured the timing was right.

So after drop it in, off to the range I went.

My best target at 50 yards was with SK Pistol Match with the 5 groups averaging 11.02mm which is sub MOA

I got some chrono data (missed the pistol Match for some unknown reason)

SK Mag - avg 1031 FPS, max spread 43 and SD 13.7 - this bulk ammo shot groups sub MOA at 50 yards.
SK Rimfire Match - avg 1036 fps, max spread 39 and SD 10 - this ammo shot groups sub MOA at 50 yards.
SK Flatnose - avg 1060 fps, max spread 25 and SD 6.7 - this ammo shot groups sub MOA at 50 yards.

I was pleasantly surprised by the SK Mag performance, here is the one 5 group target I shot at 100 yards with SK Mag.

Way more testing is required since I only have one lot of Mag, Flatnose, Match and Pistol Match and will run out soon of those but so far I like this new barrel, 4 out of 4 ammo type I shot through it gave me sub MOA group ( now if I could only string 5 in row).

Next time out I will be prepping for the Sep CRPS so 200 and 300 yards groups will be fired.

Congrats on your retirement. My brother just pulled the pin after 30 years and couple of weeks.

I recently cleaned my 12T IBI barrel for the first time after thousands of rounds. It was nice and warm, around 30C, and it took 50+ rnds down range for the bore to settle down. The 80-90 10 shot group of SK Standard+ was right at 1” at 90M. I see about the same velocities as you do. Sometimes it seems humidity plays a significant role in velocity too.

Hey fljp , what a treat a CDN doing groups in mm .
I was feelin' lonely.

Xlnt looking gun , you must be happy with the IBI..
