New IDPA Rulebook

Anyone can give me a summary of changes, regarding stage construction and scoring? Oh, never mind, I don't want to make those IDPA changes in PractiScore again...

Had a quick read through today. No changes to scoring, penalties or stage construction since the last clarifications from HQ. You may now initiate an emergency reload in the open but you may not shoot until you reach a position of cover. The words 'round dumping' do not appear anywhere in the book.

A few tweaks to the equipment rules, the weight for SSP is now 43oz the same as ESP. More holsters will be acceptable and overall the language has been tightened up. This version is just a draft so there could be more adjustments but I doubt it. Some of the classifier thresholds were adjusted as well.

I will read it over again later this week, but so far I like. No big changes (no suprise there) and maintains the spirit of the game.

The CZ Shadow now is legal for SSP/ESP and the CZ97B gets in to SSP?ESP & CDP at the shooters option. The Tanfoglio guns weighing in under 43 oz. should all get in as well ie Stock 11 and 111 if they make weight and they should.

Well the book isn't in it's final format yet. You still have to take revolver shooters into account when setting up targets to be shot at the start of a stage in the Open. Aside from that we were never asked to make CDP./SSP/ESP neutral stages so why ESR/SSR? Revolvers only compete against revolvers so this really isn't that big of a deal. There are bigger issues with the new rule book. Read it and post your concerns if any on idpa.com web site.

Bob you know the issues that can arise as well as I do. Failing to take the '6 shots then reload' factor into account could make for some very choppy stages and take the fun right out of the game for wheelguns.

Well we will see. You only have three reloads available so the issue can't be that significant. The only folks you are shooting against are other revolver shooters so it seems to me we are all coming to the dance with the same lady under our arm. You shoot IPSC with a revolver and do quite well with no revolver friendly stages and a bunch more reloads to do normally. At our club the same folks will be designing the stages and other than the first three targets, if it is an out in the open start aren't about to change. Stage equity is a big item with one of the designers as you know so I doubt you will see much change where you shoot.

Personally I really hated making stages revolver neutral especially considering the low amount of revolver shooters.

It gets even worse if you try to make a stage neutral for 8 and 9 round cdp guns.

Can someone confirm if the stock 2 makes weight for ssp? I may have to upgrade

Yeah... and even though we all know it's just a "game"... I thought the spirit of IDPA was to simulate potential "real life" scenarios....

Tuning the stages to what type of handgun people bring... Doesn't seem very "real world"...LoL

I say build the stages and let revover shooters figure it out with their revolvers, cdp-ers with their single stack .45's etc...

It shouldn't matter anyway as these different guns only compete against each other...
It doublely doesn't matter 'cause I bet you'll see, as I have a 5-shot snubby shooter out shoot EVERYONE regardless of the guns they where shootin'... And he didn't complain that the number of targets didn't add up evenly to the number of boolitss his snubbie held.

Well...I have read the new rule book and didn't see anything all that bad.

I still hate the 3/4 inch rule for holsters and mag carriers because it disadvantages skinny guy. I also don't like the use of the ftdr penalty for safety violations, especially considering it's stated purpose....having said that, neither of these seem like big issues

Overall, I expect significant differences regarding so calls on cover to continue. In fact, I just witnessed this at the last sanctioned match I shot

The new RB eliminates the need so you should be happy.

Take Care
