*NEW* Improved Mini 14

Has anyone tried the *NEW* improved Mini 14?

How are tey shooting? Minute of Barn Door?:p

I heard they are more aerodynamic so that when you have expended all 5+1 rounds and still have a standing target, you are more accurate when you throw the gun :D

Actually, I have had pretty good success with my Mini 14s but yes, I have heard the minute-of-barn stories :D

Funny... I was just reading about them on the Ruger website late last night.
*New for 2005* etc.

I tried doing a search for some reviews but couldn't find anything. I found it interesting that they are all "Stainless Steel" now (Mini 14 had one blued version).

I'd be interested to hear any reviews of the "NEW" if anyone can post.
BTW, out of curiosity... would you get the .223 or 7.62 version (and why)?

I've had three Mini-14s and one Mini-30 pass through my collection over the years. The Mini-30 was always jamming because I fed it military 7.62x39. The other Minis were a lotof fun to shoot but it drove me up the wall seeing the rounds printing all over the place on the paper.
I like the look of the new sights on the improved Minis, but I don't think I'll be buying any of them. There's a lot of other non-restricted .223s out there now that look cooler, are just as functional if not better and cost just a little bit more than the Minis (affordability used to be a big thing for the Minis). On the other hand, if they made it in .243 I might be coerced into buying one.

The "new" is the standard ghost ring sights on all models, IIRC. I did read somewhere however, that they are going to make an "accurate" model, or improve the accuracy. It will probably be a whole new rifle... with the same name. :p

I have shot a superbly accurate mini-14 though... it had about $700 of work on it though. :D Wild heavy barrel on it.

have to talk to 999 about his Mini 14's. they work just fine and he used one on the Tac Rifle course last year, it never went down.

The most recent rifle mags are starting to publish reviews... and, yes, the
"new, improved" unit STILL shoots 3 - 4 " at 100YRDS.,...
I think we all agree that reliabiltiy has never been an issue, but when you
have to spend ++$ on a trigger/barrel replacement ( as offered by ?Clarkes)
I'll be happy to become an owner (again) once it comes this way from the
factory.

I don't get it. How can they take such a proven and battle-tested design and go wrong with it?

I dunno. My M1 Carbine can shoot that good (well maybe a bit bigger grouping, but you gotta realize it's using basically a pistol cartridge), but my M1 Garand can do a LOT better than that.
Same action.
