Hi,

My partner and I would like to try shooting in the Ottawa area. Does anyone know of a place or person who offers lessons to first-time shooters?

Thanks,
N

You can try the RA Centre here in town as they have club guns and beginner level classes. Might be a bit slow this time of year but it would be worthwhile checking out.

I'd suggest the RA Centre as well. I joined there several years ago as a raw noob and they taught me alot. There were no lessons per se, but they ran a short safety course and let us shoot with the club guns several evenings a week. You don't need a PAL to start out there, which is good if you aren't ready to commit to a sport that you haven't tried yet.

A little more about myself

Hi,
So here's a little more about Sean and me (Nicole). We moved to Ottawa just over a year ago, and so far love the outdoors-y things the city has to offer!

For Sean's birthday I offered to look into shooting lessons; something he has always wanted to try. I e-mailed the Eastern Ontario Handgun Club and Shooting Range and a kind adminstrator directed me to this website since they do not offer first-timer lessons.

We both do not own firearms or have a "PAL" (I'm assumming this is a license of sorts?!?), neither of us have picked up a firearm before.... you get the point - we're green!

If anyone is willing to help me make a 30-something birthday REALLY memorable, I would really appreciate it! If not, we will definitely look into the RA Centre (thank you for the tip).

Cheers,
Nicole

While I haven't been a member at the RA for some time, I recommend you contact them for the gun club contacts.
Likely there will not be classes until the fall, but it's would be the way to start.
Welcome to the sport.

Drop me a PM if you want to come out to the Smiths Falls Fish and Game Club.

I can arrange a day starting with an introduction and then move on to .22 rifle, Russian SKS , Lee Enfield No.4 then .22 revolver , .38 special revolver, 9 mm Pistol and 12 and 20 gauge for trap.

Cheers!
