So this is basically a fancy-looking AR-180 from a company that has no previous experience with building complete firearms. Why is everyone getting so excited?

Because it's a solid looking design using a proven action, bolt, and barrel.

There's no shortage of examples of promising-looking guns turning out to be junk. How many commercially successful firearms were developed by small no-name gunmakers?

I hope I'm wrong, but my gut feeling is that this will turn out to be another Rhineland Arms R22 (which also looked like a pretty solid design...on paper).

Actually, that's what I'm wondering, too. There must be something there exciting people, but I can't figure it out. I mean, just because you've been making good accessories, doesn't mean you can create good rifle out of the blue. That's like, MagnaFlow saying since they've been making some good exhaust system, they want to start making cars as well. it doesn't make much sense, but MagPul IS doing it.

The way I see it Magpul put everything I wish I could put on a AR, no need to buy fancy add on to make it more to my taste, it's all there.
And considering it may be unrestricted as it is not an AR variant, (if it ever gets tru the US border) I could take it in the bush to hunt with.

As for it being reliable that remains to be seen, but I sure hope so.

I never sais there isn't a chance it could turn out to be a lemon, time will tell us that.

As it stands, if this thing is reliable, it is a rifle with all sorts of nifty features that a lot of us really like. That is why we are excited.
