So ive decided to take the leap into the 1911 world I was looking at paras but if people wanna give me there opinions and as to why
that would be great im not set on anything except I don't want a kimber

I was told to stay away from them by someone but like I said im open to everything I just wanna hear it all and then build an Idea from there

What is your budget? I wouldn't go with Paras for your first 1911. The fat grip can be a turn off for some people as well as the hit or miss reliability.
Look at STI, Ruger, SIG, S&W and higher end SAMs to start. Or if your last name is Rockefeller, go with a LB, Nighthawk or Wilson Combat.

That kind of sums it up.

Well I mean what are the main differences between them also a budget is probably 1200. I know the paras have had bad reviews but also the ones that are bang on people love. Im not really worried about width I was also looking at an hk45 to but the classic 1911 vs an hk isn't comparable. Im looking for accuracy and quality as being for me in any firearm.

The best thing is to handle as many 1911s as you can. There are people on both sides of the fence about all the different 1911s. Full length guide rod vs closed bushing, rounded vs straight backstrap, external vs. internal extractors, hammer block vs no hammer block safeties. You have a lot of choices for $1200. Do your hands on research and see what you like.
Why the fascination with Paras? It isn't a "classic" 1911 if that is what you want.
If it were me, I would look at SIGs and the S&W E series for external extractor and the STI for the more traditional internal extractor.

Just like them honestly I just want peoples opinions on their 1911's and out of box experiences.
Im not settled on the para that's why I made this thread I just wanna hear peoples thoughts.
Im just trying to compile thoughts and ideas and experiences with users and there 1911 this is why I joined this forum because a lot of people just talk about the looks and that's not all a gun is.

My first 1911 was a STI Ranger II. Very accurate. Very dependable (no FTF or FTE to date with > 1000 rounds). Also, very easy to take down and clean; no barrel bushing to deal with. And that trigger... awesome!

Sigh...not all Para's are double stack.

My very first pistol (first gun as a matter of fact) was a colt some 2000 rounds later including hollow points and norincos among other things it's barely ever had an issue.

Your right 09outlander yes im in Edmonton netguy1999 I just want to gather a bunch of info to kinda make my own bias so the more info the better thanks everyone.

True. I assumed the OP wanted the double stack model since there are so many better single stacked 1911s to choose from other than a ParaOrdnance.

Waynetheman's Colt stainless is a fantastic shooting gun.
I have a S&W 1911 PD Commander. It has the light weight Scandium frame. Trigger is a bit rattly but the let off is clean. The gun is truly light and handles very well. No feed or ejection issues either. My only gripe, other than the rattly trigger, is the thumb safety is stiff and doesn't engage or disengage positively, kinda mushy feeling.

I'm planning a range trip next Monday afternoon. Actually I'm looking forward to taking the STI out. I've been focusing so much on zeroing in my M&P for IPSC that I have been neglecting my 1911.

I've got a SAM Thunderbolt and a SIG Scorpion. The SAM was less than half the price of the SIG and as my first 1911 the SAM was everything I needed/wanted it to be. The SIG was a birthday gift and I enjoy it, but the SAM is still taken to the range and used as much as the SIG is.

You can buy a lot of ammo for the difference in price, and Wolverine Supplies just dropped their prices on the SAMs. Strongly reccomend this as your first 1911, because lets me honest, it's not going to be your last.
