New lapua brass uneven neck tension?

Do you FL new lapua brass?

I loaded 50 rounds last week, and some bullets were really hard to seat, and some were really easy. Those were new out of the box, just chamfer + debur.

I think that I'll try to use my FL die (forster custom neck FL die) to just uniform neck tension on the new brass.

Opinions?
 
Fireform before worrying about this.

Necks are way oversized out of the box. That settles down after the first firing.

Annealing will also be really important.

If you want to size the neck, I can offer a K&M expander which will open up the necks and then you can size with a Lee collet die. This will help but that first fire forming is still really important

I always full length resize my new cases no matter who makes them. On top of this you have a Forster die that makes very concentric straight resized cases.

Remember the X Files and "Trust No One"...............they might have aliens working at Lapua.
 
I made a second 50 rounds test batch and used a lee collet die to "open up" the necks to even diameter. at least that will help.
Seating was much more uniform

My forster custom FL die is set to bump fired cases .002

I just broke the decapper pin in it though, so I have to use a lee die to decap before sizing...
 
308Win weren't too bad, the 260Rem was really tight, still too tight after Lee Collet die mandrel only (no collet). Great after 1F.

I use a universal redding decaping die.

None of my sizing dies have decaping pins.

I decap before tumbling to clean the primer pocket and to have only clean brass go in the die.
 
I loaded a batch of new lapua 243 cases lately sand didn't resize them before and noticed it. so when I did the batch of new lapua 223 cases this week I simply ran them through a sizing die like you would any other cheap case. problem solved.
 
I bought 150 new 6.5 creedmore brass and ran them through my bushing die and it did nothing except get the dings out of the neck. Didn't even have to lube anything.

I assume after the first fire form the fl die will do something.

I love the K&M expander die with the different mandrels. Made a big difference in consistency when seating bullets

My target ammo is always clean because I extract it by hand and it goes back into the box. Because of that I size and deprime, then clean. I dont separately deprime clean ammo...
 
The burnt powder residue left on & in the neck can cause issues. Deprime, clean, start sizing/etc is the best approach.

I always run new brass through the sizing die, evens out all the necks and puts them to the proper size/tension, ensures none are dinged up.
Good ammo takes time.
