just finished mounting up a scope and loading for my "new to me" 700 Titanium in 7-08

Had Cam install BDL bottom metal and rebed the thing....he squirted some new paint on it too...

as I expected, it gained ZERO ounces with the addition of the bottom metal;) ; the loss of the steel escutcheon from the front screw, the loss of the center screw and the mag box being shallower offsets the weight of the bottom metal itself..it came in at 6lbs 6 ounces on my trigger pull scale...with a 2.5-8X Leupy in Dual Dovetails....future plans include swapping the bolt plug for an aluminium version that I have half built thereby losing the J-Lock in the process...this and a set of Talley lightweight rings should lose two or three ounces....

my search for a "lightweight" has ended, thus the selling of my Model Sevens....:D :)

Looks great and love the weight. Now how does it shoot????

Jerry

it might get a preliminary workout tomorrow:D ..hopefully I'll be able to make it out to the range....company in town for the weekend...I may be getting up very early;)

she shoots OK so far..but there's work to do at the reloading bench.
Three shot 100 meter groups averaged .967" today, but it seems slow...49grs of Rel19 was pushing the 140TSX to an average velocity of 2667fps.....can't fit much more in the case...loads with IMR4350 were even slower.
I was expecting some muzzle rise with this one but it recoils straight back and seems to recoil no worse that my 280AI which is almost 1-1/2 pounds heavier.
Anyone have any good loads for the 7-08 and 140's?...I'm thinking Varget...

I'd try Varget or RL15 too

if you swap the stock, with something flyweight, you'll lose more weight. maybe chop the tube to 19" and Ackley Improve it...;)

nice rig :D

try rl 15 it takes 8grains less powder so you got more room to fill varget is the same so i would think that both would be a good choice and have room to play with

Rembo why do you want a lightweight? Is it just to see how low you can go? What is the practical use for a featherweight gun!?

I understand if you are a mountain hunter...

because he is a gun nut

just like gun nutz who try to alter 45 caliber bullets designed for a 458 lott, to load in a lever action tube mag 45.70...;)

I gave up trying to "justify" a particular rifle long ago...I wanted a lightweight....well, becasue I wanted to try out a lightweight....and this isn't even a real lightweight in some peoples books....:)

My rifles keep getting lighter...I carried a 300 Win Mag for 12 seasons that weighs almost 9-1/2 pounds, two years ago I built a 35 Whelen, thought it would be the "end all" elk rifle, it weighs 9 lbs, got tired of carrying at after a week...........last year I built a 280AI that weighs 7lb 12 ounces......nice but not a "lightweight".....still have all of the above rifles...now this one at 6lbs 6 ounces...I think it's as low as I'll go for weight...

Big bore 9 pound plus rifles are nice, I've had a few like a 375 Weatherby and 416 Taylor(didn't have it long) and a 458 Win...I can't see carrying anything bigger than a 35 Whelen or my 300 Win Mag.....if I can't kill it with those , it's too tough to eat anyway:D

I'm going to pick up a pound of Varget...I have some Rel15..use it in the 350 Rem Mag and the Whelen....

Very nice package, you do what ever you want, l too know what carrying around a heavy hitter all week is like. That's why l switched to a lighter
weight rifle as well. Let me know how you make out with your loads, l just
bought a 7mm08 as well.

..

I had similar issues with my Model 7 7mm-08. I could not get much over 2600fps with 140gr bullets (including RL19 and others). Mind you, it was a 20" barrel, but still. I have heard that the 7mm-08 likes longer barrels. My experience seemed to show that it wasn't fond of shorter barrels. The 160's went 2400-2450fps.

well I talked to a shooting friend about this 7-08 and he showed me a load of 51 grs of Rel19 and a 145 Speer that went 2820 out of his 20" Model Seven...it took two moose a few deer. too...I actually owned that rifle for awhile. If it'll push a 5 grain heavier bullet in a 2" shorter barrel to 2820.....it should do 2850-2875 with a 140 in a 22" barrel......:D but, there's no guarantee, every rifle is different.....
