Well its been a while since I got down to Calgary for the big show, I walk out of there with a amazing find (in my eyes). A Untouched 1942 Lithgow all six numbers match(nose, stock, sight, barrel, receiver and bolt) and no FTR markings. The stock has the normal hits that come over 69 years but you can still see the sanding marks on it from the machines at the Lithgow factory. The butte stock has all those nice marking Lithgow places there, the receiver is dated 1942 and all the wood is 1943 so I would assume an late 1942 receiver. The barrel looks nice but needs a little cleaning. All and all a nice example to add to the collection.

Very nice.

One thing I would look for is the recoil lugs in the draws in the forend. If they are there you are golden.

If you do take it apart, you have to remove the forend first, not the buttstock!

There is a square nose on the buttstock bolt that will not turn till you remove the forend first.

If the forend won't move, you might need to turn the buttstock screw slightly one way or the other to get the lash out.

I saw a rifle just like that for sale last year at Milton ON.

It seems there must have been a batch of these escape being issued during WWII. This should not have happened during the war, but apparently it did. Here is mine (above my Austrailian No 1 Mk III* with H barrel :D)

I was always puzzled by the marks, '42 oin the receiver and '43 on the wood.

I expect '42 was probably a pretty scary year for Australia. They must have been making rifles like mad.
