From personal experience, the 22/250 and light varmint bullets really runs out of steam around 600yds. Not that it can't hit accurately but gets blown around alot.
There is no comparison to a 87gr Vmax from a 6BR for small target hitting. Had no issue hitting clays at 750yds. Misses were a function of doping rather then rifle. Misses were close and would have dusted a PD. 22/250 would miss by feet.
Gaillard barrel (superb), old Savage/CIL action in a mod factory stock. Was tuned properly and shot very well. Someone here has it now.
For LR, definitely heavy 22 but prefer the med. 6mm's.
