New long range varmint project in the works

From personal experience, the 22/250 and light varmint bullets really runs out of steam around 600yds. Not that it can't hit accurately but gets blown around alot.

There is no comparison to a 87gr Vmax from a 6BR for small target hitting. Had no issue hitting clays at 750yds. Misses were a function of doping rather then rifle. Misses were close and would have dusted a PD. 22/250 would miss by feet.

Gaillard barrel (superb), old Savage/CIL action in a mod factory stock. Was tuned properly and shot very well. Someone here has it now.

For LR, definitely heavy 22 but prefer the med. 6mm's.

I have a ton of work on the go all year round, my staff and I work at this shop fulltime only and NEVER does it take years to build a rifle. BUT as long as guys here in Canada prefer to support foreign makes, the firearms industry in Canada will continue to stagnate. Only with continued customer support does any faction of business grow, so I find it odd that most Canadian shooters are quick to whine about a lack of options available here, but when options are available, still refusse to make use of them.

A couple of questions you may want to ponder BEFORE ordering from any foreign company regardless of reputation, what about if there is some problem? You will need to then get an export permit and they need to get import and export permits, and again you will be hit with rude shipping expenses.
My experience with some US based makers is that if you have a problem of any sort it is a REAL nightmare to get it solved, even if they want to do all possible to make it right, the govenments move very slowly.

theCanuck, 25 cal is possible but bullet selection is not that broad. Could be an up and coming calibre but that will be for boutique makers to fill.

The potential is certainly there in all areas of target shooting and LR varminting. There is no reason why it can't bridge the 6mm and 6.5 bullets and do more with less bullet weight. IF someone would build new bullets.

However, right now, not all that exciting. My guess is that the 270 will gain more interest then the 25cal in the near term.

Well put, we really do need to support the locals. I think what it is, is that people read about stuff on the big US forums, and almost all our gun rags are US too. Canadians just don't get as much exposure.

It is harder for us here in the business, as we do not really have anything the likes of Guns and Ammo or Shooting Times in Canada. Also given the far smaller number of Canadian makers than US 1s, the natural reaction for many is to look south where there are many options.
Some research by a consumer would show that there are several truly fine gunmakers in Canada, we just don't have paid media blowing our horns.
Personally I would put up PGW, Gallin or my own rifles against any of the rifles offered in the US as minimally being equal to anything produced there.
And supporting Canadian made can only help increase the firearms business for all of Canada, as with more success stories more people may be inclined to spend the ####load of money it takes to get started in a politically stifled business.

What Alberta says is very true. Just recently we are seeing more of our work stay in Canada due to the problems with getting parts out of the US. I have said it many times before that Canadians do seem to have an inferiority complex towards things Canadian. The world loves our stocks but to Canadians we are nobodies. Canadians don't know of us but some guy in Russia knows all about us!

I for one will have never and will never go to an outside builder when I have people like Ron Smith and Rangesports Unlimited to do my stuff.
Keith Cunningham is another that has done workk for my family in the past comes highly recommened.
Although I do not own any rifles built by PGW, ATRS, or Corlane, David Henry I have shot them , and can highly recommend them on this basis.
All of the rifles I shot could compete in an "F" class match, as well as long range hunting.

I see absolutely no need to go Stateside , it can all be done here in Canada!

Its Gaulin,
they're two brothers based in sherbrooke QC and they do a very good job IMHO They make their own action for 50 cal. althought I have no experience with it, i've heard its pretty neat.

I had my 223 cut and recrowned and bedded there and my groups shrunk by half :)
