Got a stripped lower and built it up last night.. This is my 10th lower so I'm hoping it's not a lower issue.. All the function checks are good.. (trigger really sucks.. but it works properly)

put an upper on the lower it mates nicely but when I pull back the charging handle it's a no go seems to be catching somewhere.

I've taken the thing apart a couple times and checked that the carrier slides back into the receiver extension and it does

I'm going to take the buffer retainer out and see it it's catching on that when the upper is attached ..

I have a spare bolt and I will give that a try..

Any other ideas?

I've purposely not included brand names to avoid any comments.. The upper was used, came from a nutter here.. the lower parts came from a couple different vendors here...

When I installed an aftermarket end plate I noticed that the top of the plate was just barely high enough to interfere with the charging handle.
Something to look out for I guess.

you have 10 lowers..... why dont you swap out one of your other ones and you can quickly determine if the problem is with the upper or lower....

then report back, also pics would help

Take the BCG out, close the upper and lower again and see if the charge handle moves freely. If it does, remove the buffer and spring, put the bcg back in and see if it catches the buffer tube.

Hey, I know a certain manufacturer that did that too!

....and shipped it anyway....

CH moves very little 1/8, 1/4 inch.. I will try another lower/CH tonight..

For some reason I was getting caught up on the idea that it was the buffer retainer... I wasn't thinking CH..

Thanks for all the input... At least I have a plan of attack for tonight...

DZ; Wouldn't I end up with the BCG in the tube and limited ways to get it forward?

PS Luke, I've built 10 doesn't mean I have 10...

I don't suggest removing the buffer and spring, and pulling the CH back. The BCG will go back further than its supposed too, and can get VERY hung up on the buffer retainer.... bad news.

Taking it apart to fix this is not fun.

and the winner goes to all those that said charging handle sorta ... The problem is actually the lock plate sits about 1/16th high and just catches the charging handle... I have a plate on my XCR that I will swap... Will update after dinner...

It took about 5 minutes to pull the XCR plate and stock, do the same with the AR and switch the lock plates and reassemb;e both of them...... and it all works...

Thank You gentlemen... as I have said many times If you ever get to where I am I''ll buy you a beverage.. Call first though :)

Doesn't matter how much I know I don't know it all someone knows more about something than I do...

By "lock plate" you mean "receiver end plate"?

Yes...

That's why the gun has a forward assist ;)
