New M&P 9mm... What do I need to know?

Just bought my first pistol today after passing my restricted test yesterday. (A friend bought it and will be Holding it until my license comes in a few months)
I bought an S&W M&P 9mm range kit. I had the opportunity to shoot a Glock 19, a 1911 and an M&P 40 and I liked how the M&P felt in my hands but I wanted something in 9mm for my first pistol.

Just curious, is there anything I need to know about this gun? Break in, special maintenance, must do modifications? Are there any upgrade parts out there and if so, who sells them?

Don't point it at yourself or anybody else, especially when it is loaded.

You need to know that there isn't enough ammo in your ammo "stockpile" and there never will be. Shoot it - keep shooting it, oh yes, and clean it once in a while.
