NEW M305 broke the bolt!

What's the cost of GI bolt these days? $300+ and then shipping off for fitting...another $200? And what do you have then...a rifle that works like it should have when you bought it but at twice the price.
Usually replacing the bolt is because someone is trying to build a "match grade" unit out of one of these, and is sinking much more into it then that. Why should anyone have to do that if they want to keep it stock as a plinker? . The forged Nork bolts are not that bad, we rarely hear about them failing.
It's just this latest North Sylva batch of garbage with MIM bolts.
Like I said, dog them to replace it with a SAFE rifle. Or sue the #### out of them if you get injured...as the importer they will be 100% on the hook for injuries.

I was flat out denied warranty for my blown up bolt. The reason given was because I had put on an aftermarket stock and chopped my barrel to 18.5 and voided any warranty.
I was told any modification to the stock rifle voids the warranty and should only ever be worked on by the folks who handle the warranty work.
My retailer stepped up and provided a used TRW bolt for me at no cost which M14 Medic then fitted for me.

If my rifle was completely stock and this happened I would defiantly get the fangs out and go after the importer.

Sent NS a message yesterday, will see if they say anything. I'm fully expecting them to do absolutely nothing about it and tell me to go pound sand. I made it absolutely clear in my message about it being a safety issue and mentioned that these need to be safe in order to use. I know in the oilfield the minute you mention "safety issues" the oil companies usually get the issue fixed in order to avoid lawsuits and to keep their company image positive. Hopefully NS does the same
I did put a usgi stock on mine but did no modifications to the rifle otherwise. A stock shouldn't void any warranty as nothing is modified.

It will be interesting to see if they still consider these safe to shoot despite the recent outburst of failures.

Apple tree: If you don't have any luck with NS, perhaps give Marstar a call to see if they have a spare bolt that they can send out inexpensively ? They are one of the largest Norinco importers and usually have all kinds of Norinco odds and ends lying around if you ask politely. I did reach out to them a few years ago for a spare one as I was suspecting uneven wear on mine and they sold me one for dirt cheap even though I had not bought the rifle from them.

Wolverine Supply should have some gi bolts

They do for 250$

Id rather spend that on ammo TBH. If I knew these had a tendency to blow up in your face I would not have bought this rifle...Im tempted to just sell the thing and curse norinco for the rest of my life but I'm halfway through the warranty process anyway. Who knows maybe I will end up with the sweet rifle I thought I had.

Ill most likely end up cursing Norinco anyway though.

The GI Bolt is tempting but at the same time if nobody goes through the warranty process they will keep sending us these junk bolts and an unaware kid might end up getting hurt. Nobody needs that.

Exactly.

I haven't heard squat from North Sylva. I guess this means they don't care that some of us have bombs waiting to go off

I picked up the rifle NS sent me back today from the transporter. It turns out they didn't repair my rifle, they sent me another one new in the bag right full of chinese motor oil. The bolt looks like its real steel. Im happy with the outcome.

Part of me expected to receive another MIM bolted gun, Im glad they stepped up and sent me something that looks safe.

Hopefully they adressed the issue with the manufacturer and sellers will stop sending out rifles with these dangerous MIM bolts. If I was in the market for another one I would definitely want to inspect before buying...

I ended up sending my rifle to John at m14 medic to get fixed
I'm glad NS did get you fixed up but I never did hear back from them. My gun will be repaired but unfortunately not by them. I have to pay to get it done but so be it
