My recently purchased R1 (my second) came with the standard two 7 rd magazines. These have different followers than my other R1 mags, which are 8 rds with plastic bumper pad. These were replacement mags after I discovered the 7 rd mags that came with the gun wouldn't lock back the slide when shooting the gun dry.
In trying to load 7 rds in the new mags, I couldn't get past 6. Taking down the mags showed looong springs. Using the springs in 'Shooting Star' mags as a guide, I ended up trimming the springs 3-1/2 coils. Now I can fight the 7th round into the mag. I'm not going to cut off any more, allowing the springs to compress with use. The gun has no trouble stripping off the top dummy round, so I'm good to go.
I have an UPlula mag loader coming that will make it a lot easier on my ''1911 thumbnail" .....
