The fit and finish- well mostly the fit of this rifle is horrible, I got about 8 hours deburrig a brand new rifle, going over every little piece and checking fit and operation. Even the edges of the lever were too sharp for comfort, the hammer sharp enough to cut if thumbed too quick. For $644 they could have at least throw the parts into a bin with polishing beads or media for 5 minutes and cleaned them up a bit to remove sharp edges. I didn't shoot it yet, but likely I will not buy another new marlin product.

My mossberg shotgun for half the price was cleaned up better before it was shipped out. The reason why I cant take it back is I already started on the furniture; the iphone makes it look darker than it is

Back in 90, I bought a Win 1300 that would not open do to poor fitting front for stock, a Marlin 25mn a year or two later that would not work. Many an hour fitting, cleaning and polishing, and I still have both today and wouldn't trade them for the world. Think of it as a learning curve and have fun.

Its so hard to believe brand name weapons maker like Winchester and Marlin have been coming out with poor fitting rifles, whats going on with these industries?

Are they not doing quality tests before shipping anymore?

It does sound like they having them made in China :(

Savage makes some of their Steven's line of guns in China and nobody #####es about the quality.

I'd be inclined to send all that in a letter (a real one) to the CEO (not "Customer Service") of Marlin. If everyone who's had similar problems with their QC did this, they'd likely have cleaned up their act a bit sooner. Getting returns from dealers is one thing, but direct feedback from customers is another.

I've heard of some "Remlingtons" being quite good, but it seems to still be a matter of chance.

Anyone got a name and number?
