I know some or most will consider the Mini a sporter rifle and not a black and green rifle. However my inquiry deals with their newer "tactical 14" and mini-30 models.

Have any landed in Canada? Specifically the mini14 and mini30 with the hammer forged barrels and birdcage flash hiders.

I know Ruger's new Gunsite rifles are having export problems due to the threaded barrel, supposedly a version without the flash hider will be made for Canada, but that is just rumors around the water cooler. I guess this will also be true of the tactical minis?
One can hope they will be imported.

Are they in Canada already ?

for the cost of mini-14's you could buy a lowend ar-15 here in the u.s.a.!!!! and to accurize a mini up to ar-15 standards would require spending even more money on it for an accuestrut system! granted i like the mini because its cool looking, but id stick with my ak lol!!!! hell id take an ar over a mini, but in the end thank god i can have my ak lol!!!!

Well it probably would be nice to shoot the ar any where we please, but up here it is restricted...(range only). So if the ruger tactical 14 is non-restricted, that's why he would want it.

You can buy a lower end AR-15 here in Canada for less than a Mini-14 and cheaper than anything you can find in the US. Just check out Marstar or Arms East' link at the top or the page:).
I already have a Colt 6290, nice rifle, but I prefer the mini, just me (family, work history).

As far as accuracy, lets not beat that horse again.

Just wondering if anyone has the new mini with the flash hider, or if any one has heard any scuttlebutt about them.
Thanks for your response.

The problem is that all of the models Ruger is currently selling down in the states with the flash hiders have 16 inch barrels, so they'd be restricted up here. There's just no demand up here for a restricted Mini-14, so I doubt anyone has imported one into Canada.

The closest you're going to find at a Canadian gun dealer is the model that c4pyro posted, though as you can see, it doesn't have the flash hider. Of course, you could probably get a gunsmith to thread the barrel on one of these and add a flash hider easily enough.;)

Adding a flash hider to a mini-14 takes almost no time to do. You can get them for cheap. You could always shorten the barrel and re-crown while you get the thread cut. Worst part is taking the front sight off (sometimes they are tight like a F$%@$%...)

I believe it has to be 18 1/2 inches of rifled barrel and does not include the brake welded on or not, to be classified as non restriced.

Im pretty sure it doesnt have to be rifled. i think as long as it is one piece it counts. like as with the swiss arms where the flash hider is integral to the barrel it counts toward the length (welding wouldnt count though.)

Is there a firearms verifyer on this site who can confirm the law concerning extending barrels to make non-restricted?

there was a thread back a month or two, swiss arms gun with integrated brake. if the break is part of the barrel then it counts, welding on does not. so its going to have to be a custom barrel
