I think the contract for the "Berdan Sharpshooters" 1859's was somewhere around $11 each...bet these are somewhat "north" of that value now.

According to the Berdan book the cost of each rifle with angular bayonet was $42.50.
The 3,300 NM'59 Berdan rifles fell in the range of 54,374 to 57,567 according to Roy Marcot's book.

Very nice! The 'C' prefix on the carbine represents 100 so the actual Serial # is 109,371.

That's a fantastic carbine. I have one also a bit rougher but still very good. The serial number is scrubbed from the tang but under the barrel is stamped C22270. It's a lined 50-70, has the cartouche and has a patch box butt stock. I've fired a douzen rounds so far without a problem loading 63gr of 2f.
