Well today I added a new shotgun to my little collection. I bought it at wholesale sports today. I got a good deal on it. $399 plus the gst.

I've always loved the 835 ( it was one of the first shotguns chambered for 3 1/2" shells correct?? ) and really like the thumb safety, and the button by your index finger to cycle the pump. Very ergonomic friendly.

Anyway here it is.......

I have one, but I only use it with a rifled barrel for deer hunting because I got it for free, I'd like to put some synthetic stocks on mine. Mine is an older one before they ported everything.

It would be a good goose gun because of the over bored barrel, but do not use it in an enclosed blind beside your friend or he'll kick your ass (the porting on all mossberg guns, is a stupid Idea.)

It also has a limited choke selection as far as I have found.

Anyone else have one?? Any comments on this shotgun??

I sold mine on the EE a few months ago. I used it for hunting for about 12 years and fired countless shells through it. Never had a single problem...I do take care of my guns....the buyer was very impressed...:)

That gun killed lots of ducks and geese.

I only sold it as I had 3 mossbergs/4 shotguns total....went with a 935mag for hunting now....fell into the semi crowd there....have a 590A1 for fun and got an ithica 37 just because it had a good $$ tag. The 835 just wasn't getting shot so the $$ is going towards an m14....something I always had interest in.

Good gun....I liked the versitility...I had a 24in rifled slug barrel with it too...just more options. That gun could hunt birds and deer.

Most accesories for 500s will fit and the screw out chokes are not too hard to come by.....same as different barrels.

overall good gun....a little sellers remorse but I added the $$ to my gun fund.

To add....the porting does make it louder than others but I had no trouble finding chokes for it ie...selection.

happy shooting.

Just bought one used from another member. I haven't shot it much but I like it so far. It is going to a friend when he can afford it. I'll keep using my 11-87 since I already know where it shoots, lol.

Well good to know. Thanks for giving me some feedback. I did try to buy a full choke which they didnt' have. I'll have to source one out.

I'm mainly going to use it for ducks and geese. I may end up with a rifled barrel for deer, but not too sure right now.

I have an Ulti-mag combo with a smoothbore and rifled barrels. I really like this shotgun. It has performed flawlessly and fits me very well. I would and have recommended this gun to others. Good luck with yours - happy hunting.

Well today was the first time I got the gun out. I bought a clay pigeon thrower and 100 rds of winchester cheapos from canadian tire.

The first 40rds went great. I was nailing all the clay pigeons and it was great. Then out of the blue, I fired and went to pump to eject the shell........... nothing...... Shell wouldn't eject. I thought that was weird and NEVER had this happen before. I had to remove the barrel and pop the shell out with a hunting knife. I then tried it again.... NO problem. So I assume it must of been a bum shell.

At the end of the day, I popped a 3 1/2" shell in and decieded to giver a go. I've never fired one that big before.

All I can say is WOW!!!! What a kick! haha. I was actually surprised. It kicked like a horse. I mean I weigh in at around 165lbs and I sure felt it!!! haha.

So other than the bad extraction, the shotgun worked awesome.

Well I got the gun out and shot some more clay yesterday. Gun worked great pretty much all day, except I had another shell get stuck in the barrel. This time it was a 3 1/2" high brass and not like last time a 2 3/4" low brass shell. I did some reading on some shotgun fourms on the 835 and have read, I'm not the only one with this problem. Apparently it is said to have a really tight chamber. One way people were trying to fix the problem was to polish the chamber.

Has anyone had any problems like this?? Or had to polish their chambers?

I have read that Mossberg has gave new barrels to some customers who have had this issue. I may have to look into it some more.

I have an Ulti-Mag I bought about 15 years ago or so or maybe more. Got it the first or second year they made them.

Haven't had any issues with shells getting stuck. The ball bearing in the safety fell out but I fixed that myself. Good gun for the money.
