I've just aquired my first Lee Enfield No4 MK1, and when I was assembling the bolt to the rifle, the bolt will not close in the ready position. It springs back open, but will close in the uncocked position. What am I doing wrong?

Did you screw the bolt head on all the way before putting it back in the rifle? Maybe it is one or more rotations out from being tight against the bolt body before you put it back in the rifle?

Ian

I've done that. The only way I can get it to stay closed, is if I hold the bolt down.

You mean if you don't hold the bolt when its closed, it will open then pop to the rear ?

If that is the case, you have an issue and you will need someone who have more knowledge than me...

Yes, that was the issue and is now working correctly.
