Just received my Norc M4 and I have a couple questions. First, the manual that it came with has the year 2006 on the front cover...I was under the impression from Badger Arms that this Norc was one of the latest shipments, so do all the manuals say 2006 or did I get a rifle that has been sitting around for 5 years and is an older version(with more problems)? Secondly, the manual lists the service life at 6000 rounds...Is this something that I should worry about? 6000 rounds is not very much. Thanks.

Doubt they print a new manual every year, 2006 is when the model was first introduce, unlike North American manufacturers they don't throw in a new cup holder and call it a limited edition ;)

As to the service life is 6000 rounds, that pretty much true, you had picked up two of them while you had the chance, seriously as long as you keep an eye on any wear and tear, as part of routine cleaning regiment, just swap out parts as you need it, it will last you awhile.

6000 is a VERY modest estimate... and the prob based it on full auto or burst fire..

that is a HARD chrome barrel.. and AR barrels are plenty available anyway if it does wear out

Don't mistake service life with serviceable life. It just means that parts need replacing. The 6000 rounds probably means the service life of the barrel.

Did you know that the Swiss military considers the service life of the Sig550 barrels to be 8000 rounds? Sure it's still perfectly safe to fire, and likely still very accurate, but that's just a service life. The point of service lives is to have a built-in safety barrier. A barrel that will likely fail at 15,000 rounds may only have a SERVICE life of 5000. All mfg's do it.

I bet that barrel is good for at least 10,000.
They base the barrel replacement at full-auto wear levels.
But then again bobbynewmark already stated this.
The fact is none of us will ever wear out a barrel unless we're shooting an overbore or magnum cartridge. Or doing some crazy ass training...

6000 rounds is the wrong order of magnitude. You might eventually wear out the barrel, bolt, carrier, and small parts like springs, but I don't think you will ever wear out the upper and lower receivers.

10,000 rounds is probably the upper limit for match grade accuracy for .223, but it shouldn't be an issue for most types of shooting done with an AR. Firearms instructor Pat Rogers has a carbine he calls the "Filthy 14" that has over 50,000 rounds through the original barrel.

Well if the Swiss estimate is on rounds fired in combat, their barrels would probaly rust out first.:p

Just kidding, just kidding, to all the Swissarms owners, don't want another argument over the Swiss army.d:h::canadaFlag:

My Norinco M4 has a 0 round lifespan. It has not cycled 1 round since i bought it new. Bolt carrier group hardly (if at all) moves on firing. The rifle is clean and all types of ammo has the same effect.

...and you haven't returned it yet because......?

WOW!!

You must have a Gas port blockage. If you have to manually cycle after each round fired, and it dosent move or only slightly there is a gas port blockage or manufactured defect causing it. Maybe they forgot to drill the barrel for a port(highly unlikely LOL) Kinda like my FN with the gas plug turned 180 for rifle grenade launching..:p

Return it right away I would say!!:agree:

Turns out the bolt carrier was not drilled through at the gas key area. Retailer made good on it and swapped out the carrier.

thanks for the feedback.
