New Norinco M-14S and metal bits

I have an M-14S that has not been taken out of the grease yet. I am storing it until I have time to degrease and fire it. I already own a functioning Norinco M-14S.

I know that you are not supposed to really do much with a new M-14 until it has been degreased. However, I have cycled the action a few times and dry fired it a few times. In that time, and through inspection of the barrel, I have noticed one or two small chunks of metal in the rifle.

The first was at the end of the barrel, near the muzzle crown and flash reducer area. I saw it sticking up inside the barrel and fished it out with a pen. It was very small and thin, it looked like a metal filing or a shaving of some kind.

The second piece fell out of the action somewhere.

Do shavings produced at the factory sometimes end up stuck in the grease of the M-14S? I don't remember if that happened with my other M-14S or not. Is this normal?
 
Check it out good even if you want to leave it in the plastic for later.You've got a year to get it fixed.And that goes by fast.
 
I saw a quote from a WWII Garand manufacturing engineer. I sort of remember he said, he wasn't making rifles, he was making chips and rifles were what was left over.
 
Mine had a couple shavings stuck in the flash hider that I found during cleaning. Nothing to worry about, just make sure you clean it well before shooting.
