Hi everyone....

Well the day is finnaly here, i bought my first rifle, the 7.62x51 NATO Norinco M-14/S model service rifle. She came factory packed brand new. The box has the Norinco M14/s Logo on it, and "Manufacured in the peoples republic of China" written on the side. It came with 3 Mags, one 20 round, and 2 5 rounds, vacume sealed in plastic, with a little oil in there surrounding the mags too! the sling, as well as the rifle will vacume sealed seperatly and a cleaning kit/multi tool and lube in the but. After close examination, there isn't a mark on the steel whatsoever, anywhere, and the stock is minty, probly Chinees mystery lumber. I haven't fired it yet, and i am holding off until my ammuntion arrives... which by the way is 147gr 7.62x51 NATO surpluss. It say's .308 on the reciever, but don't be retarded, use NATO ammo, around 147gr, reason being if you stick the typical hunting180gr .308 hunting ammo in her, A: 180gr is too heavy a round for a service rifle of this type, and B: it generates too much gass pressure, causing the barrell to warp or foul, or maybe even slam fire or explode. Its a military rifle, use military ammo. I'm glad we Canadians are able to pick up top notch (IMHO) service rifles, and not pay rediculous prices like our yankee pals to the south. I'm going to fire it this week at the range here in NS, got 200 rounds of 7.62x51mm FMJ NATO FNM portugees surplusss ammo today, and will gladly post some pics of the groups i get ect. With a nice coat of break free, it cleaned up the factory grease, and the entire rifle is glimmering like moe-foe. If anyone else got the M14/S here in canada, give me a shout or leave a post !!!!!!!!!

Your a little off with this.
I know lots of guys that shoot 168's and 175's through theirs and never have a problem. The rifle will not slamfire or explode because the bullet you choose is too heavy.Worst that can happen is you get crappy accuracy.
Anyways enjoy it.Lots of guys shoot thiers out here in BC at our service rifle championships. You going to get in the game now that you have a decent rifle??

LongShot !!!!!!!

Ya for sure i want to get in the game, i've just joinned a club here recently in NS, and i'll be entering the first competiion i can with my new M14. I understand what your saying about the ammo..... but i'd like the best possible accuracy i can get, thus the 147gr, 7.62x51mm NATO ammo. I've just orderd some gass pistion drill bit's and barrell wrench, to do regular maintenance on my pistion, but i'm not going to try and take the gas plug off without the wrench, for fear of bending or over-tourquing the front end. For those of you who are still are still waiting for your M14/S, keep your stick on the ice and be paitent, it will arrive don't worry.
I'l post some pictures from the range this week !!!!!!

Well i took her to the range after getting my 7.62mm NATO FNM ammo, she was a treat to fire, and after a quick zero, i was standing with no bench rest, nailing 1.5 inch groups at 100m with the iron peep sights. I'll admit i'm rusty after so long passing without shooting but right out of the box and i'm sure it will be nice at bull meadow from 600m when i pimp it out with a good scope. I was putting holes in 1/2 inch steel plating....lol Very fun to shoot and very accurate. Synthetic stock is on order to maximize it's potential accuracy. I also found out that using just a little grease on the bolt tracks is highly reccomended.

Long Live The M14 !!!!!!!

If you are geting 1 1/2" groups, offhand, from a stock Norinco, with issue ball and iron sights, don't touch it, don't mess with it, you've got an exeptional rifle. No reason to assume that swapping for a surplus synthetic stock is going to improve accuracy. This general pattern of rifle has been extensively used in the US for NM target shooting. Search out US websites, and you will be able to find all the modifications that are used to get rifles to shoot as well as yours already is.

The synthetic is orderd and by all accounts, the Norinco stock is garbage. Mine showed signs of a repair job on the inside of the stock on the wood. Most of it's natural beauty is lost. your right about not messing with it, it's zero'd in pretty good, but this crappy looking peice of crap stock has to go, the rest of the rifle is brand new, as well as the trigger group, no scratches what so ever. The barrell is chrome lined, clean as a whistle. I hope i will not lose any accuracy by switching to a synthetic, in fact i've heard only good things about it, if your lucky to have someone doing one up for you, that's competent enough to take all things into consideration. The cam i orderd, is 2 shades of grey, cam. light and dark grey, it will look very sharp and not too flashy.

Long Live The M14 !!!!!
