New Norinco M14, looking to get some work done.

So I finally got bitten by the M-14 bug. The price was right up at Ellwood Epps, and I have been toying with the idea of one for a while not, so I just went for it.

I am building it up to how I always wanted my M14 to be, a decent precision rig. I already have picked up an Aluminum AKM stock and Rear Command Arms Stock with a monopod.

(Not my rifle, but this is the stock I got)

Now that I have those things, it is time for me to start looking at what needs to be done on the rifle.

The Op Rod is a little stiff, and the trigger seems like it could use work. The safety is also very stiff, and I have heard of people shimming their gas systems.

What are the other major things I should look at doing to the rifle to help increase accuracy and reliability?

Also, whats a rough price range to expect for that kind of work to be done by a good riflesmith who knows his stuff? Time is not a big factor, I just care that the work is done right. (M14 Doctor seems to be the go to guy on CGN)

Thanks for your time.

shoot me an email, I'd be happy to give you a reasonable quote for any and all M14 related work you may need. The whole reason i started doing what i do was that there really wasn't an m14 dedicated smith in the country who specializes in the M14 platform only. And i got the job of repairing lot's of work done by other smiths that were simply not specialized enough to get er done correctly. No offense to anyone ;)
I can also supply parts such as NM oprod spring guide rods, NEA mag releases , replacement pins, and my growing inventory of spare internals such as trigger parts ect. These are only availlable to my riflesmithing clients, I do not retail these parts.
i'll be resuming standard bookings shortly and would be happy to answer any of your questions but for most folks not getting the accurized shorty package, below is my standard accurizing package
1)Standard Accurizing package 265.00
This package combines the following:
-TIG weld gas asembly unitizing (65.00)
-Match Condition trigger job (75.00)
-Basic Tune and Match Condition (155.00) which includes the following:
-Full inspection and written report provided with rifle when returned
-barrel index verified
-headspace verified
-receiver bridge firing pin interface inspected
-bolt lug bearing checked
-firing pin hole dimension checked
-firing pin protrusion guaged
-bolt/oprod timing verified
-trigger function and safety tested, trigger pull measured
-gas assembly tuned to eliminate rotational and or for/aft play and timed to barrel gas port
- oprod guide match conditioned and oprod timed to gas piston
-flash hider inspected
-rear sights inspected
-stock fit inspected
- assembled, correctly lubed and safety tested

and to this one can add an NM oprod spring guide rod.... and if desired an NEA mag release
and for sage and akm clients, substitute sage/akm install/fitting for the tig unitizing as your rifle will not need unitizing.

Darn... :( I missed my calling. :D Nah... I'm just jokin' :p

M14Doctor IS the Go To gunsmith for this platform! He's up to speed for it! :ar15:

Cheers,
Barney
