Hi, I ordered an M305 from Ellwood epps and it arrived today, the thing is stamped M14 on it, not M305, is it the same thing? One more thing, the front sight seems to be crooked and does not line up straight up and down, its slanted slightly to the left, is it possible to fix this condition? thanks.

Miles Teg, send a pm to Hungry... He's the man for M14 stuff... and yes, your M14 is the same as the M305...

Cheers
Jay

Find a NM front sight, mine was also like that but slightly on the right.

Or read the sticky at the top of the page for the official Hungy Method welfare approach to filing down your sight

It seemed to shoot fine even though the front sight is off a bit, got in in the bullseye first 2 shots at 50 yards anyway, and that was off hand.My leaper mount just came and I put my cheapo red dot on it for now, so the sights aren't an issue anymore.

If your front sight is canted to one side, the barrel probably needs to be re-indexed just a hair to make it vertical.

This is an easy fix if you have the tools.

If you don't have the tools, this is where Hungry comes in.

SKBY.

I just offered to buy Miles' Norc. Should the front sight re-alignment be left to pros or is it a relatively straightforward affair? What tools are required?

Won't turning the barrel a bit change headspace?

It could, if the front sight cant was severe.....say a quarter or 10th of a turn or so. If that were the case, the chamber would either have to been reamed or the shoulder of the barrel turned back; depending on which way the barrel had to be rotated.

More likely, the barrel only has to be indexed a very small amount, say a thousand or two, which should be within the chamber tolerance spec. In some cases, indexing the barrel might even make a loose chamber tighter.

It may sound like a stupid question, but is the barrel canted or is just the front sight leaf adjusted for windage? Most 'rincos that I have see have had the front sight adjusted to the exteme. That not being the case, I'm certain that Epps would be able to rectify the problem if the barrel is indexed wrong. Give them a shout :D

i don't think the rinco's are sighted in at all- just proofed and shoved out- mines 15 years old first generation and it's front sight was far over left as well- never noticed until a few years ago-
